Not for those new to Algebra
Book has BRIEF explanations and NO practice exercises. It's okay if you still remember your Algebra from High School. The companion workbook has NO relationship to this book: Different order, different titles, lots of silly references that makes understanding tricky rather than easy. So you can't study a chapter in the book and then find the companion exercises in the Workbook. Major Frustration.

Basic algebra made super easy
I’m a 33 year old going back to college after 14 years and this book allowed me to brush up enough to pass entrance exam no problem, actually it was much easier to understand than a regular algebra text book. I highly recommend it.

E-Book Formatting Creates Inaccuracy and Confusion
The teaching style is good, but the e-book formatting (as contrasted with the printed book) is inaccurate in places, which occasionally gives the reader confusing and inaccurate information. At location 1016 (as I recall) for example, the e-book omits four line breaks that are in the original book, making eight very simple examples into four nonsensical ones. If I had been trying to learn algebra for the first time, rather than reviewing, this would have been permanently confusing. Later examples, though rare, are much harder to figure out unless one knows they are errors, which defeats the purpose of the book. These random formatting errors render a "dummies" book confusing at best.

An Excellent Tool
I am trying to teach algebra to a 20 year old woman, with ADHD, who is completely convinced that she cannot learn math. This easy to understand book has worked wonders for me, not only is it very straight forward, but it also explains things to a degree that is beneficial for everyone.

gives great examples and pretty much covers basic algebra
Ok, so my 7th grader has now out mathed me! I was having issues remembering how to do algebra (hey, it's been a while since I was in school - don't judge) anyway this book has been a godsend, concepts are simple to understand. gives great examples and pretty much covers basic algebra. I can now correct my kids homework and if a problem is wrong, I am able to review it with them and show them how to do it

Helpful book
As a new college student that has been out of high school for 10 years, I felt I needed all the help I could get. This book had tips that were very useful and I believe it assisted me in passing Algebra 1 with a B+.

Not Perfect
As a set these Algebra I review books are an amazing tool. I used them to relearn some algebra and had some questions that other sources had trouble answering well. There are parts to this book (specifically typos) that make it confusing for a first time learner to understand more difficult concepts, but if you remember much of your Algebra I at all then you should be able to skip over these errors. Other than a first time learner, this set is a great way to sharpen your math skills and make higher math easier. If you do buy the book without the workbook, then you might want to google up some additional examples. Overall this is pretty decent and I'd recommend it to anyone needing to hone their math skills.

Never Stop Learning
This is a great book to re-learn the methodology behind what you already know. This reminded me why there is so much more to Algebra that your day to day thought process. Never taking Calculus back in College, it was my News Years resolution to do so. The first chapter of the pre-Calc book said that a refresher in Algebra is a big recommendation. Glad I did.

Highly recommended.
At school maths was my poorest subject by far. When it came to algebra forget it! I just couldn't grasp the concept. Needless to say I didn't even pass my CSE exam.Yes it was that long ago.Going to college I had to do maths to obtain my qualifications. We were taught by someone who knew how to teach and I passed my maths qualification with distinction. But my lack of understanding of algebra was still there. So nearly forty years later knowing I had no trouble with arithmetic I decided to try and tackle algebra again. This book was a godsend. Easy to understand, taking you through each stage step by step. I found it all straight forward and completed the book in no time. Its a shame my old maths teacher couldn't teach so well.

Poor Kindle experience. Poor layout.
I don’t quite know how this book received such a high rating?I understand rules are important in algebraI only completed 25% of the book because it was so boring. A concept is introduced and there are no associated practical exercises. I also and decided to request a refund because of the following:Firstly, I downloaded the Kindle version and most of the equations are too small to be seen properly. This is a formatting issue and they can’t be enlarged.Secondly, as mentioned above, the book is written in a really bad way. Examples are good, but nothing without immediate, associated exercises. Before buying this book I used ‘Algebra for the terrified’ and that was so much better.

Great Book
It really is a superb book for learning algebra. However I quickly realised that I didn't quite reach up to the "Dummie" level. Whilst it explains the basics, if you wish to learn algebra there are other important mathematical milestones need to be reached first. I have had to put this book away and start learning skills and levels I am too embarrassed to list here! great book, great service!!

Excellent
Although I have only just started this book I can tell it is going to better than those endless maths lessons I sat through 40 years ago. It is easy to read and easily laid out as well. Well worth the buy.

Clear and easy to follow.
I have O level C grade and work in year 6 of a primary school as a TA. A basic knowledge of algebra seems to be necessary now to work in year 6 although I don't think it always was so I bought this book as I do not want to look stupid! I would say it assumes a knowledge of maths equating to about level 5 National Curriculum. I am finding it very helpful. I need to keep reading it as I need to know what 'simplify' means and also 'factorise'. I have forgotton now that I am getting on!
