This is a really great guide for DIY electricians. If you are not familiar with electrical work though - read the whole book carefully and work to understand every related facet of your project then take your time, reference the book if not sure. If you do this, your work will be at near professional levels.

I got the book to keep up with the changing codes, simply to make sure I was still mostly code compliant. Things change so much over the years, good resource material.

My Grandson wants to learn some basics about residential electricity as he considers career options. I considered the Basic Home Wiring book, but thought it too basic, so I bought this for him. It has lots of great pictures which will help visual learners. However, I thought it lacked depth. I went through it and underlined many items that I thought should have been highlighted, but were only brief mentions in a picture caption. I also added NEC references to the pictures and wrote in some explanations in the margins that I thought should have been there, to explain WHY something is done this way. I also downloaded materials on GFCI and AFCI for him to study. I also downloaded the Radio and Television 2014NEC PDF that gives good detailed information on Inter-System bonding and I also printed out materials on Bonding and Grounding, to help him understand them better. Of course this book is not designed to make you an electrician, which requires much more study and hands-on experience, but, in my opinion, this material should have been covered in more detail in a book labeled as ADVANCED home wiring. This is more of an Intermediate home wiring book.

I ordered this and _the complete guide to wiring_. it's the exact same information as what is in _the complete guide_, but much fewer content at almost the same price. why even make such a book? total scam.

These books helped me through making my entire house “smart”. I had lots of three-way configurations, combined with lots of 2, 3, and 4 switch groupings and these books had everything I needed to properly do it DIY.

As others have said, this book is just a stripped down copy of the B&D Complete Wiring guide. I’ve not found any info not present in the complete guide and many pages are identical. Many useful things like conductor ampacity have been removed. The only conceivable application is if a reader only wants a reference for what has changed in the code - but even then I don’t think that justifies buying this. Will be returning.
