The Sewing Book New Edition: Over 300 Step-by-Step Techniques

Covers everything you could possibly have a question about with sewing with very clear illustrations. I take several of Alison’s classes on Craftsy.com but when I have a quick question about a technique it is wonderful to grab her book and reference it when I don’t have time to search a video. I can’t think of anything I don’t like about the book except that it’s very heavy but that’s to be expected. It’s packed so full of information!

I am just amazed at this book! It has everything g you need for a beginner sewer. Full color and loaded with instructions. I am very happy with my purchase and will use this book as reference for almost every sewing project I do.

This book is beautiful and an excellent reference. The projects that come in the book really look like things I would want to make.

I use this product for self improvement

I know nothing about sewing or the practical aspect to this book, but I think this book’s fault is not in the content itself, but in the design and format. The kindle version is made of virtually images of the book; you can’t highlight, adjust brightness or interact with it in any other way than zooming it in or out, let alone look something up at the content page.

At least for a rookie like me this is a fantastic book, it covers everything, and it is all described in both text and clear color photos, they explain all kinds of sewing subjects and after each one you get an example of how to use it in the real world. They explain different kinds of fabrics, how to interpret a sewing pattern, how to use different seams, how to use interfacing and on it goes, you can find pretty much anything in this book, again a fantastic book.

Il libro rispecchia gli argomenti trattati nel famoso Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing, ad eccezione di pochissimi temi particolari del tipo come rivestire un divano (ho l'edizione del 1978 e li ho comparati pagina per pagina); questo per dire che è completissimo e molto ricco anche nella selezione delle tecniche. In più, anche rispetto al suo antenato nobile, ha delle foto enormi ad alta risoluzione che sono il sogno di qualsiasi autodidatta. E' sempre aperto sul mio tavolo da lavoro. Meraviglioso

This is a great reference book and just what I was looking for. As a beginner I find instructions in dressmaking patterns can be confusing, so I bought this to support that and it is just right for my needs. Has a good section on tools and fabric types (fabric can be confusing). A good section on basic functional stitches, seams and hems. Large section on altering patterns and then the techniques on garment construction. Mostly aimed at dressmaking. Lots of step by step pics making it easy to see what to do. This is definitely a reference book, not a project book, but does have some projects you can do if you wish. If you are looking for a project book this might not be for you. If you are looking for a craft book, this may not be for you. If you want to know techniques to construct garments and alter them for a better fit, this is definitely a must buy.
