I found new author!!
I love reading books from new authors and find a gift of many hours of entertainment. And Susanne is such an author. I was totally entertained by this story of a man who couldn't get past his guilt because his reckless disregard of time caused so much heartache. The story was laid out so well, the flow never stopped. Just bought the second in the series. Do yourself a favor and get a copy!

An excellent begin...
Jason just wants to rest before deciding how to move forward with his life. When he answers an emergency call while giving his brother a hand, his life changes forever. Nikki just wants a normal life, and that’s what she think she has until someone nearly kills her and her entire family. But the killer isn’t finished yet.Suzanne writes an excellent who done it with a twist. I always enjoy her books. Well worth the read.Five out of five fairy kisses for this reader.

A Thoroughly Entertaining Easy Read
On His Watch is a suspenseful thriller with a romantic twist. The plot is not complex, but highly entertaining. With books of fiction, I like well-developed characters involved in rich story-lines that stay with me after I've gone to bed. This book certainly fills that bill. The characters are developed not so much that you can visualize them physically, but you can really understand them emotionally. The two main characters are realistic and believable. Our hero and protector cannot leap tall buildings in a single bound, but is definitely skilled at what he does. He’s an imperfect man with emotions and a big heart who gets the job done. Our victim’s trauma is uniquely captured and this lovely lady’s inner strength reads true. Is there romantic involvement between protector and victim? You’ll see. All the supporting characters are purposefully introduced without superfluous characters to confuse the reader. The pace of the story is set with the situation, on several occasions at a break-neck pace. The book is well researched. A distant villain with a plocomelia abnormality; nice touch. Look it up, I had to.I recommend “On His Watch” as a thoroughly entertaining easy read.

Wonderful suspense!
Nikki was a great character. All the horror she went through both physically and emotionally really drew me in. Jason who is FUN was first at the scene and was staying to protect her and her daughter Mandy while working to solve the case. Lots of twists and surprises . Great secondary characters. Great story!

Balance between sweet romance and violent suspense
This is the first Susanne Matthews’ novel I’ve read, and it won’t be the last. As violence butts up against sweet romance here, the juxtaposition is endlessly entertaining. So, On His Watch begins with a sweet scene of a pregnant mom [Nikki] conversing with her charming little daughter [Mandy], and the narrative broadly hints that all things are not perfect in Nikki’s marriage. Things are about to get way worse.Ms. Matthews doesn’t make us wait. Just as Nikki’s [beaten, dull] narrative voice settles, she finds her son murdered on the kitchen floor, and the perpetrators are still in the house. The massacre of Nikki’s family is brutal.Introduce to this scene Jason: FBI agent with a couple mistakes under his belt and a few more in front of him.Okay, I don’t want to rehash the plot, but will mention that one of my favourite bits was that, due to brain damage, Nikki has amnesia when she comes out of her coma. Now, that’s not the favourite part – it’s that Nikki’s voice is suddenly fresh and new as she’s not at all the person we met at the start. All the people who had beaten her down – and the reasons for her submission – are forgotten, and she stands up for herself. It was a good touch, and a telling statement on how we allow others to affect us.In all, a great read.

Wow, a true page turner!
Having lived in a small town where nothing ever happens and being married to a police officer, I could absolutely relate to this story. Susanne Matthews hooked me from page one and kept me turning the pages till the end. Couldn't get enough. This book is the reason I am behind on sleep and housework, among other things. One of those books I wanted more time for reading. Susanne captured what most women want if they will admit to it, a hero. Someone to protect them and theirs. Strong characters with flaws. Well written, exciting and believable.I just purchased Fire Angle, book two in this series. I better get my other things done before I start reading.
