the one I received came with a small chip in the tip that would fray the thread - I polished the edges of the chip with a small buffing tool and have since been able to use this for all my thread sizes with no problems. its a basic ceramic tube bobbin holder fits any of my thread spools - you just tweak the legs to provide the right tension, just like all the slandered type bobbin holders

Works fine as a wire bobbin

Using any thread less than 210 Denier I continue breaking thread off.
