SAMTRONIC Passive Bookshelf Speakers 5.25" High Output Woofer and 4 inches Ribbon Tweeter Wood Color, Pair - Needs Amplifier or Receiver to Operate

For my home theater I have two Martin Logan Towers and a Martin Logan Center channel with outlaw audio subwoofers, everything is being handled by a Onkyo RZ-50, My front soundstage is amplified by a Monster MPA-3250 while the Onkyo Receiver is pushing these speakers. I wanted to get the surround system up and running while I hunt garage sale for used dream speakers, so I picked up four of these speakers.They hold their own!, especially considering the cost and I am pleasantly surprised. I run my system with Dirac Live and it sounds great and pairs well with the front sound stage. See attached photo for the uncompensated curve. A little sloppy on the low end but they still sound good in pure mode without any room compensation at regular volumes. Dirac evens these speakers out wonderfully.I initially noticed the high end glassiness others have mentioned, but driving these speakers hard and loud for a few days with a variety of music to burn everything in has brought out a much better character from the tweeters. This also improved the home theater experience.I run a low cut off at 60hz and let the fronts and subs take over below and this allows the speakers to push clean with no distortion. I have pushed them to ranges where I need ear plugs to be in the same room as the speakers. Again, the 60hz cut off is key to these higher volumes without distortion. One of my dislikes about room compensation is it is done at one volume, as you climb into higher volumes the tweeters on these speakers become more enthusiastic than at regular volumes.Biggest dislike, no front grille! At least the speakers are beautiful with the woven carbon fiber.To summarize my home theater sounds great, they look great, and I am happy with the purchase!

Oh my are these solid speakers. Good base, the tweeters and range is solid for this price.They take a couple listens to break in but once they do are you in for a treat. These are so good, the ribbon tweeters really fill a room and cast wide while the woofers have been responsive to my fastest paces of EDM.

ChiFi does it again with under $100 audiophile quality gear. I was not expecting much from these $90 bookshelf speakers, but wow, what a pleasant surprise. The large ribbon tweeter makes for a very revealing, detailed, open, and airy presentation. A Similar experience to my older Emotiva bookshelf speakers with an AMT tweeter, but here, the top end presentation is larger, deeper, and more vast fore/aft with better projection. The glass fiber woofer offers impressively agile bass that is well extended, much more than my Wharfedale Diamond 220s that are usually in their spot, both having a 5.25 mid-woofer, and more bass than the old Emotivas. Compared to the KEF Q150, these offer a little bit less bass, but a more natural texture. Compared to both KEF and 220, these offer a larger, deeper soundstage, with a lot more detail. I’m hearing things I cannot hear with my 220’s dome tweeter, or the coaxial KEFs. One negative of this added detail is that the top end can get fatiguing in the near field when toed in at my desk. This never happens with my 220’s regardless of toe in. However, adding toe out reduces the glassiness, possibly removing it entirely when aimed straight out. Listening further away from the speakers eliminates the near field glassiness I observed, and the speakers really project the sound outward with less effort than my 220s or any other 5.25” speakers I own. My Diamond 220’s simply sound like small desktop speakers whereas these Samtronics could be capable main speakers in a 2 channel hifi system in a larger sized room. It took minimal time/experimenting with placement before I was given a balanced center image which I appreciated. These don’t seem too fussy. I’d use a DAC and AMP combo with a refined and balanced top end, that isn't thin/lean, to avoid any fatigue from that 4” ribbon. Beyond SQ, these are built heavily and solidly. The leather look front baffle and wood veneer are tasteful for $90. One speaker was missing a rubber “foot”. These do not come with grilles. I don’t use grilles so no issue. My 220’s look much better in comparison especially in my office, but these are just fine for a budget minded HiFi system where sound is prioritized over looks. In closing, these might be the best passive bookshelf speakers on Amazon for under $200. Get em while you can!

They are good speakers but website description was wrong, the frequency response on the box says 57hz-20khz not 45hz
