Product Description The JustBoom Amp HAT is a high quality audio amplifier designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi. As well as an audio amplifier, digital to analog conversion is also included so no external sound cards or DACs are required. Simply stack the plug-and-play add on board (HAT) onto your Raspberry Pi A+, B+, 2 or 3 and it will be ready to use immediately. Simple to install with no soldering required and all the mounting hardware already provided, this product is suitable for absolute beginners and seasoned professionals alike. Just connect your Amp HAT to a set of passive speakers and you can be up and running quickly, enjoying flawless high quality audio playback within minutes of setting up this Raspberry Pi HAT. We also include an optional IR receiver to allow remote control operation of your Raspberry Pi. Includes a Class-D power amplifier chip with built in 192kHz/32bit DAC, for a peak power output of 2 x 55 Watts. The JustBoom Amp HAT outputs audio over two speaker cable connector blocks that accept anything up to 14 AWG cable and will provide crystal clear audio to either 4 or 8 Ohm passive speakers. The Amp HAT uses the I2S interface for its audio input which reduces CPU load on the Raspberry Pi compared to USB solutions. It is also designed to back-power the Raspberry Pi over the 40 pin GPIO header, meaning you only need a single power supply for the entire system. All of the unused Raspberry Pi GPIO pins are still accessible on the Amp HAT for easy customisation of your project – add additional sensors, buttons, LEDs, rotary encoders or anything your heart desires. For 4 Ohm speakers we recommend a 15 to 19 volt power supply with at least 58 Watt output power (POWERPAX SW4520 or similar) .Note: A 15v / 65w power supply is recommended for this product. Box Contains 1 x JustBoom Amp HAT for the Raspberry Pi

JustBoom Amplifier HAT for Raspberry Pi .
Bought to pair with a RPi 3. Assembly and fitting into a Justboom case was straightforward. I already had a 19 volt 4 amp laptop power supply lying about so used this. Music files are stored, mostly as .flac files but some as Mp3, on a WD MyCloud NAS drive on my home network and the PI/Amp combination is linked to this by ethernet cable and TP Link Homeplug. I decided to use Runeaudio as the OS but may well change to the Justboom version of Volumio as volume control in Runeaudio can only be enabled in software whereas the justboom enables hardware enabling with no effect on the sound output. Only trying it out will tell if it makes any difference into the modest Mordaunt Short M10 speakers which I am Using.I am using this combination to supply music to a relatively small room, approx 15 x 8 ft. Speakers are positioned on the long wall only 5 ft apart and i sit on a sofa in front of them about 6 ft away, so not ideal listening conditions. The volume is more than adequate to fill the room but does occasionally seem to be trying too hard and will probably benefit from the additional output to be had by moving to the recommended 24 volt 3.5 amp power supply. Both the amp and speakers are still bedding in with noticeable improvement even over the first day of use. So far, stereo imaging is strong and well focussed, sound is lacking in very deep base, as could be expected from such small bookshelf speakers, but is still reasonably strong rounded and musical. Treble is well controlled giving good definition to high notes and strings without being glassy or overly bright. Midrange is nicely detailed and slightly forward. Overall a musically pleasing well rounded perfomance which belies the price and size of the individual components. More than anything however, I am pleased with the ease of access to my music collection and internet radio which this setup brings

Great for a self-build music system.
Excellent dac-amp. Currently running from 12v supply with Mission M71i speakers and Volumio os/application. Cannot fault performance.
