Small but perfectly formed
This is small - not much bigger than an egg cup - but it's for grinding small quantities of herbs and spices, such as saffron. It does appear to be proper brass, which made for a lovely, impressive yet affordable 19th wedding anniversary present. Also makes a nice bell sound when you donk the pestle against the side!

Pretty and functional
This review is for the mini brass mortar and pestle - and I mention this because it's quite a confusing array of objects that are available to purchase above. It is mini, it's a tiny little thing about two inches high by one and half across. Mine is not entirely like the picture in that there is a small stalk, like a wine goblet. The exterior is well polished and the interior is dull and slightly roughened. It is brass and the body rings true, like a bell. The pestle is about three inches long and similar in appearance to the interior of the mortar. It is small, so it's good for tiny amounts of spices. It's marketed for saffron and it does a good job of breaking up the dried strands. I kept my fingers around the base to stop it rolling around and it worked well.

It does not work for saffron as stated. Its cheap and tacky but looks okay in the photo. Rubbish item and Amazon should stop selling this item and similar items that dont work

Tiny
I knew this mortar and pestle would be small but wasn’t expecting a miniature! Absolutely ridiculous, only thing this could be is an ornament. The pestle looks like a screwdriver, definitely not something for practical use.

Je l'ai utilisé comme moulin pour le safran. Ça a pas donné le résultat que j'attendais. Il a seulement coupé le safran en deux ou 3 morceaux, pas plus

I really wanted to like this saffron grinder, but it ended up being a big disappointment.

Yes, it’s small…but you KNEW that before you purchased it, so don’t complain. If you need to grind something larger than saffron, purchase a larger mortar & pestle. This is SO beautiful and SO perfect for grinding saffron and SO pretty to display on your counter and SO reasonably priced. I love it and it brings a smile to my face every time I see it!
