The Oil Painter's Handbook: An essential reference for the practicing artist Flexibound – February 1, 2016

It was recommended by my son's arts teacher as a text book. It is very well written and the teacher uses it at private class all the time.

I bought this book from Half-Priced Books and then from Amazon bought the Acrylic version. I have many art books. Marylin Scott took the trouble and had the wisdom to include color charts that I have not found in other books. Her writing is straightforward and she doesn't waste words. More, there is a spirit of kindness in the book. Her heart is in this book and I appreciate it. I would hug her if I could. There has long been a need for her kind of attention toward students; especially, such as myself out here in the wilds of suburbia without direct teachers. I love it and I love her for it.

I bought this book an a whim and SO glad I did. I purchase a lot of art books and I mean a lot..!! And this one does stand out..The illustrations are done by competent artists and there are some interesting tips for using oils that I would never have thought about. It also shows some nice color charts and as I was thinking of buying a color chart book, I don't feel that I need to now. And thank goodness... only a couple of pages dedicated to the "stretching of canvas".... the amount of wasted pages given to "the stretching of canvas"... is crazy... Life is too short for me to become an expert at stretching canvas... I would rather paint...!
