I’ve used these once practicing wood carving which they are for but I’ve used them more on home projects where I needed to carve out smaller areas such as for door hardware. These are really handy to have around the house.

I am a novice wood carver, exclusively small sculptures. I don't use this for traditional "wood working" like making decorations for cabinets or furniture or anything like that, so I can't say if this set is good for those purposes or not. But for sculpting, these are my impressions: This set is good! Each chisel is comfortable to hold, the variety of sizes and shapes is great for any kind of cut I'm looking to make. One thing: they do not come sharpened. I wasn't anticipating this, but it kind of makes sense to me now. If you're looking to use these, then sharpening is a regular part of the routine, and you should be sharpening then when you get them anyways. I use a very simple whetstone (Coleman - for sharpening pocket knives) and it works just fine for all the chisels, although I'm sure there are much better options out there. I don't have any experience with any other chisels to compare this to, but I have no complaints!

In contrast to some other reviews, I found that these chisels/gouges presented in great condition. They are sharp, though require a bit of honing to get going. Further sharpening is required after use (as one would expect). There appeared to be a bit of a protective coating on the sharp edges which was easily removed when honing. The tools are rigid, durable and despite being slightly eccentric regarding the cutting edge, keep in mind that once you understand the tools' geometry, you can manipulate the cutting edge to suit your needs. Happy with this product.
