Rock solid HH novel
If you are wondering whether to bother with this one, definitely do, its one of the best in the series. The multiple viewpoints works really well. The setting is immensely grim dark. There’s a great who dunnit style unfolding as to why the war on Tallarn isbeing fought.

Refreshing interlude in the series!
I am reading the HH series in order after the last 5 books it was beginning to grind. Really grind. I was therefore reading reviews of Tallarn with some trepidation. But what a surprise! Tallarn is 2 short stories, one novella and one novel all about the Iron Warriors planet-killing bombardment and then mechanised assault of the planet Tallarn, and the mainly human defenders who emerge from underground shelters in their own tanks to fight back. Its refreshing to read human characters in the HH series and they are well fleshed out people and you care what happens to them defending their home-world against impossible odds. The tank battles are never boring and you know what is going on in the heat of battle. There is also smattering of a treachery and betrayal thrown in, with some of the locals allying with different sides of the Heresy. The prose is simple and easy to read quickly, and the dialogue flows naturally: None of the clunky dialogue and tongue-twisting phraseology when Primarchs or Space Marines are trying to talk to each other, and its much better for it. A nice interlude before we get back to Primarchs, Space Marines and demons.

Great Read
A fan of the whole 40K Horus heresy story line I have found this a excellent chapter. It gives you a real idea of the scale of Imperial warfare and the human cost of the war.

Brilliant story.
So many sub plots to keep up with but well told and some great twists. Well worth reading.

Needed more Iron Warriors.
A collection of 2 novellas and several short stories. Should have been written as one complete novel with the same cast all way through and more POV from Perturabo and IW. Had some good written stories though.

Good read
This book has a tendency to shift all over the place story wise. It does stick to the main protagonists however. It gives a very good account of fighting on a planet that has experienced exterminatus. It also details regular humans in armored vehicles against space Marines. The look inside the life of an imperial assassin during an operation was very good.Overall this was a very good read though some may find it hard to deal with the back-and-forth all over the place aspect of the storytelling.

Grim indeed
A really strong collection of 3 grim stories of war on a dead world. Especially enjoy the activities of an Imperial assassin, as well as the WW1 style tanks.
