Eye opener
I am an avid reader of books specially the history and lives of Jews all over the World. I have pre-ordered the book and the Arab Jew book arrived on time. I always harboured a feeling that Jews are homogeneous people living for each other. We have met Eastern or Mizrahim Jews before. I could never contemplate that so much discrimination , disrespect and disdain were in store for the Arab Jews in ‘ their promised land’. They left countries of comfort, safety and affluence. We agree that post WW2 situations were very complicated especially after the Holocaust. The Jews received sympathy from all over the World. However, the Jews in Muslim majority countries didn’t suffer in Holocaust like the Ashkenazims. I was almost on the verge of crying reading the plight of Iraqi Arab Jews in Israel. How they were tricked into making the migration by Zionist movement. The inconveniences of the Arab Jews in the new country were heart breaking. They have been insulted, looked down upon and severely discriminated by the Ashkenazims who had considered them inferior. However , Avraham Shlaim proved his mettle and worth by becoming a worthy person and a new kind of Historian. I congratulate him and his indomitable mother, Saida/ Aida. This is altogether different kind of biography which set us thinking. The book is easy reading and the reader is kept engrossed into the events. Unique story telling like an Arab or Arab Jew. I wish very wide circulation of the epic book- Three World-Memoirs of an Arab Jew and all the success for the writer.

We can live together
A beautifully written book about the lives of Iraqi Jews before and after the creation of Israel. The author describes himself as an Arab Jew. That’s how we saw each other before the exodus.

mMemories of what was, and what could have been
Extremely moving account of what Arab-Jews lost when Zionist zealotry and Arab nationalism clashed. The consequent loss was to peace and freedom for both Arab and Jew. Today, the Zionist ideology and Israel’s hatred for the Palestinians has resulted in a genocide of Palestinians, and the world-wide recognition of Israel’s depravity. Hope for a lasting peace is shattered.

A must read!
It should be a mandatory reading at schools. Perfect introduction to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict.

a person is his circumstances: about three worlds that shape him
"To what extent is Shlaim’s resentment toward Israel a consequence of his growing consciousness of, and unhappiness with, a society built on the injustices done to the Palestinians? Or to what degree is it anchored in his own dysfunctional family’s Israeli experiences?"MICHAEL YOUNG
