com offers this book at a much better price than I bought it
I bought this book from a big book retailer brand new. Amazon.com offers this book at a much better price than I bought it. It's a large book with a spiral binding that makes it lay flat and easy to turn pages. It measures 13 inches tall by 24 inches wide and easy to read lessons in tablature and standard notation. It comes with a CD so you can listen to most of the lesions. It's full color with high quality print and paper. It's a great book for the beginner and moves you slowly to up in competence and introduces different playing styles: Blues, rock, punk, folk, soul and much more. It has a nice history of the electric guitar in the front of the book.

Very impressed so far
Very impressed with it so far. I’ve only recently received it and started working through the tutorial section but seems clear and easy to follow, with a reasonably quick progression from learning the basics through to the sections on specific styles of music. It’s written for readers wanting to learn the electric guitar really, despite the front cover picture. I’m not a beginner, but am primarily an acoustic strummer- so it’s hard to say what a complete beginner would think of it - but I do have lots of guitar tutor books and I would say that this is definitely one of the best from what I have seen so far. Looking ahead in the book to the styles section, it doesn’t look too daunting and actually seems achievable - unlike some other books - but yet looks fairly comprehensive to get you to a reasonable level. The backing/example tracks are provided on CD but there’s a website link provided to listen to them online instead. Each example has it’s own track on the CD - not several examples one track as in some other books - so that makes it easier to use. It’s a big book and has a spiral binding, which is good. It doesn’t include real/known songs to learn but teaches you all the techniques to be able to play and learn songs yourself. Some of the influences of the example tracks are easily recognisable though - e.g. in the Alternative section - there are a couple of exercises which are obviously based on REM songs.
