Coffee Scale with Timer, 0.1g Precision for Espresso & Matcha

First of all I bought this to replace an old plastic Kitchen Tour that was acting up on me. I mostly do espresso and specifically, lattes, with very occasional pour overs. I have only had this for a week but I really like it. It has good workspace and is light, picks up to move easily with one hand and the cover is attached firmly and does not fall off. But what i really love about it is the large well lit numbers, good early in the morning when its dark. And they are two different colors and very easy to interpret quickly and accurately (am doing single dose hand measured each time). And I really like that when I measure the beans and when I watch the shot there is little lag, the numbers do not flicker, and it is very accurate. It is a real pleasure to work with and I do not need all the bells and whistles, I can push a timer start button, and I can turn it all off when I'm done and ready. A great addition to my work station.

I bought two of these for the home after using them at work as a volunteer barista. My daughter claimed the cute blue color for her matcha drinks, and I am using the black one at my espresso bar. They are accurate and look nice. My favorite element is the silicone base which makes it easy to clean. I can run hot water over the silicon to get rid of matcha powder or coffee grinds and dry it to make it look like new.. They are not as thin or compact as other scales and uses batteries but is a great tool and value.

I track my calories very diligently, so I am constantly having to measure everything that I eat. Doing that with a normal, run-of-the-mill food scale has been a nightmare. They update so slowly that it's so easy to overshoot a gram, then undershoot the correction, then overshoot the correction, etc. But with this scale, it updates almost immediately in real time, faster than I can detect it pausing at all. I can usually hit the exact measurement that I need on the first try without correction. Also, it looks really sleek, and it has illuminated digits that are very easy to see in any lighting. Love it.

This little scale is great! It is very accurate! I checked it with gram weights and it's right on the money. When I'm tweaking a coffee measurement for preferred taste, one tenth of a gram matters. This scale is perfect for those small adjustments. It's also not complicated. I didn't even need to read the instructions. That's important for us guys LOL. All joking aside, you'll like this one unless you honestly need something bigger.

I recently purchased a Maestri House S3 Scale and now this greater goods scale for my coffee making needs. I initially enjoyed the Maestri House, but found it would drift quite a bit (yes, with the cover) for about the last minute of my pour overs, probably due to the heat soaking into the scale from my glass carafe. So I decided to give this scale a try as well. So far from what I've noticed both scales can drift, but this one seems to drift less. I'll give a breakdown of both below: - Greater Goods Scale Positives - ++ Uses AAA batteries This is a big one for me. While a lithium battery is more energy dense, they are much harder to replace once they stop holding a charge (eventually). Also, you can get sets of rechargeable AAA's so as soon as you run out of battery you just swap the charged ones in with little to no downtime. Give me more products with user replaceable batteries please. + Physical Buttons, not touch. This is a plus because it's much harder to accidentally press a physical button. + Silicone cover fits well and stays secure + Scale is on top of base rather than the unit as a whole This is a positive because when I push the buttons on this scale, the scale's weight readout doesn't change. + Simple design Sometimes K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple, Stupid) reigns supreme. While the Maestri House has more features and modes than this scale, I cannot tell you the number of times I've used the Maestri scale wrong according to the manual which would wind up messing up some part of it's pour-over mode. This Greater Goods scale doesn't have that issue because it's a simple device. You have your timer (count up or down), mode, tare, and power buttons annnnd that's it. No extra fluff. - Greater Goods Scale Negatives - - Still drifts, but at least not that badly for me. YMMV - It would be nice to have the count up timer beep once it reaches a set time, rather than having that feature be limited to the count down mode. - Slower refresh rate than the Maestri. - Maestri House S3 Positives - + More modes (Pour-over & espresso modes) Pour-over mode with customizable ratios, and espresso mode that starts the timer once the espresso hits your cup. + Looks a bit better + smaller size than Greater Goods. + Faster refresh - Maestri House S3 Negatives -- Lithium battery, hard to replace - drifts a good amount when heated by my carafe (with silicone cover on) - touch buttons, easy to accidentally press a different button. - Loose fitting silicone cover, has a tendency to want to slide off the scale. - Convoluted process for doing pour-overs. - Pressing buttons on the scale causes weight readout to change as I push the button. I definitely think there's a market for both of these. But I would personally recommend the Greater Goods (this) scale if your main focus is pour-over coffee.

I’ve tried several scales across a range of prices for my coffee setup, and this one checks all the boxes when it comes to features for the price. The size is just right to fit a six-cup Chemex without blocking the display. The screen is large and bright, and the two-tone color is a nice touch. Accuracy is on par with other scales I’ve owned, offering 0.1 g precision with less fluctuation than even some more expensive models I’ve tried. One major plus over competitors -- physical buttons. Most scales in this price range use touch-sensitive controls that are extremely fiddly and can even trigger when water drips on them. The Greater Goods scale uses good old-fashioned, clicky buttons instead. My only real negative is that the scale isn’t rechargeable and requires three AAA batteries, so long-term cost and environmental impact are worth considering.

This small, inexpensive scale does everything I need to get a great cup or pot of coffee. It is easy to use and has remarkable battery life. Highly recommended.

With a built-in timer, back-lit display, easy-to-clean cover, and claimed 0.1-gram accuracy with multi-kg capacity, you'd think this is a category killer at a great price. However, this scale has a few frustrating flaws that make me want to replace it: 1. Temperature-related drift 2, Weight-rounding by ±0.5g near multiples of 10.0g 3, Low-battery indicator that activates only after the scale won't function due to dead batteries. The temperature-related drift has been discussed in other reviews and acknowledged by the manufacturer. Don't expect the weight of an item to remain constant if the object is hot or cold as once the heat transfers between the item and the scale (even through the included silicone mat), you'll see the measured weight drift up or down. I can live w/ that as long as I don't wait a long time, or I re-tare the scale once the temperatures have adjusted. The low battery indicator would be more useful if it displayed when the batteries are close to needing replacing. The only indication that the batteries were nearly dead was a scale that powered off early or during use. The final and most frustrating flaw, which the included video demonstrates, relates to the ability to measure items that are in even 10.0g increments after taring the scale. This scale has the nasty characteristic of rounding up or down by ~0.5g at every 10 whole grams. When slowly adding weight, this causes the display to jump from 9.5g to 10.0 grams and will only jump to 10.6g or higher once that weight threshold is exceeded; meaning that from around 9.6 to 10.5g, the scale will always read 10.0g. The same applies to any multiple of 10g (20, 30,100, 250, etc.) For those who are OCD about round numbers, you may like that "feature", but for those of us who know 0.1g can make or break an espresso shot when weighing out beans, I've become frustrated when trying to measure 20.0g of beans on a zeroed scale. A workaround is to NOT tare (zero) the scale, but subtract the weight of the container in my head (container must also not weigh anything w/ an even 10.0g). Only then can I get true 0.1g accuracy so long as my weighing vessel isn't also an even 10.0g increment or the combined weight doesn't result in an even multiple of 10.0g. Example: my grinder's output container is 104.6 grams. I want 20g of beans, I aim for a total weight of 124.6g when filling the container w/ whole beans. However, if I were to zero the scale, then measure, I could get anywhere from 19.6g (pulls too fast) to 20.5g (starting to choke). The included video shows me taring the scale with a ~62.5g espresso glass. I then pour in ~11g of beans, then take some out 1 bean at a time to show how the weight snaps from 10.6 to 10.0, then down to 9.5. I then show the handful of beans that are all considered "10.0g", re-adding each one individually (plus 2 more from my scoop) before the display jumps back to 10.6g.

A great set of scales. I was very impressed with the quality of the packaging it was which is a good indication of how much the manufacturer cares about their product. I've not had a chance to use them yet but did give them a short test and everything was great. I don't usually write reviews but felt I should for this great value for the price.

Awesome scale! Love the aesthetic and ease to use. I recommend it for the price compared with other scales. It is a great and stylish addition to my pour-over set up.

The scales lasted less than a year before breaking, the scales use a lot of battery powder and I had to replace the batteries more than i wanted to. The scales then refused to turn off and so used up all the battery power and became useless. The tare button stopped working.
