Q: When the Mute button is engaged, do you still have instrument signal at the headphone jack so you can practice without sound from a connected speaker?

I believe the mute will not send a signal. I just unplug my cab and used headphone jack. Plug the cab back in when playing at volume.

Hi - my favorite head was an 800 before I got my mb500. The 500 is much better, in my opinion. The 800, like my old 400 gives you the "GK sound," but the mb500 has a much richer tone, plenty of power for bar gigs and festival stages, and a contour knob, so you can use a little of it instead of the "one size fits all" switch. I'm sold on the newer heads; use a 200 for upright and my 500 for Fender bass gigs - far superior to the older generation.

Q: Is it rack mountable? Are rack ears available for it?

Q: Does this amp accept 1/4" jacks/patch cords for speaker hookup?

No it doesn't. It has Speakon connectors. I use a cable with a Speakon connector on one end and a 1/4" plug on the other end when I use my G-K amp to run an old 4x10 cabinet.
