Quality at Affordable Price
Came in good condition in a reasonable amount of time.I have very much enjoyed this instrument. It is portable, relatively easy to learn and has a very expressive sound. Some of the reeds are slightly out of tune for the lower notes, but it still is a quality instrument. The included carrying case is nice. Great instrument to start on. Good for jam sessions. Highly recommended.

Very practical
I purchased this melodica a month ago, and I definitely don't regret it.I've never been passionate about melodica's sound, but we all should agreethat is is a very practical instrument. It is easy to carry, and you could get a nice sound if add some reverb to it in your recordings. It came in a beautiful black case but the first C is quite sharp. That's the only thing that disappointed me. The rest of the notes are well tuned.I recommend it.

Fun to play, but poor tuning
The Hohner Student Melodica is a nice introduction to the instrument. The construction is adequate, but the reeds are poor quality.I've had to make a number of alterations to make this instrument viable in a performance setting. First, and most disappointing, the tuning was pretty off. I've had to tune it a several times now by hand, which is a major pain (Hint: search for how to tune a harmonica). I believe it left the factory in-tune, but the reeds lose pitch very quickly. While not unbearable on its own, in an band this has been rough. Pitch varies widely and changes from week to week. Second, the tube mouthpiece wasn't quite long enough, and its elasticity makes for less breath-sensitive playing. This has been easily fixed with a quick trip to the local hardware store for a $3 piece of plastic tubing cut to my liking.Bottom line: I really like the sound and the feel, but its ability to keep pitch is very poor. Melodica is an awesome instrument, but I think one should try a better model than this.

Very nice melodica for most people's needs
This is a very nice melodica and I'm very pleased with it. Some brief background on what I do: I'm a composer for the stock music division of Sony/ATV publishing called Extreme Music. You've heard my work on shows like Dancing with the Stars, America's Most wanted, and hundreds of others. I bought this melodica for use in writing pieces for these shows. To confirm what other buyers have said, yes, the tuning is a bit wanky. One of the G's on mine is a good 15 cents flat. However, in actual use, it's not really particularly noticeable, mostly because one sort of expects a certain amount of tuning flux from this instrument. Furthermore, I was able to successfully retune the instrument using Melodyne Celemony Melodyne Studio Bundle Audio Editor with DNA allows note editing on polyphonic audio material. AU, VST, RTAS (even polyphonic sections) with little or no noticeable artifacts. I'm really very happy with this instrument. The carrying case it comes with is a nice addition, and the melodica itself is well-built and easy to play. I would unhesitatingly recommend this melodica to anyone in the market for one.

Easy music
I had one of these when I was in India, in fact I taught myself to play this and I loved having a simple easy-to-play keyboard with the portability and pleasing notes of a mouthorgan, almost. I was delighted to stumble on this while browsing, and so far I'm enjoying my return to playing music after a ten year hiatus. The piano keyboard is east to use, even for someone without formal training. This instrument included a longer mouthpiece with a flexible hose so that you could hold the instrument away from your body and see the keyboard easier; I'm more familiar with holding it to my mouth while playing, which is what I continue to do, but I can see the potential appeal of the longer mouthpiece. It's slow going re-learning this instrument, since I play by ear, not notes, but the tone is quite nice and I'm having a blast so far. It's not got the tone of a pipe organ, but it is pleasing, and equally important is easily carried almost any where, and unlike electric keyboards, it needs no batteries or power supply, just a robust pair of lungs.

Good instrument, except for intonation.
I was pleased with the timbre of the instrument and the action of the keys, but about 1/3 of the keys were noticeably out of tune. (I used a chromatic violin tuner to test the pitch of every reed) This wouldn't have been an issue if the instrument was in decent relative tune with itself, but the some notes were right on the correct pitch while others differed as much as 30 cents from the correct pitch. That being said, it isn't impossible to tune melodicas, just very laborious. Everything else about the instrument, case, and accessories was satisfactory.

Good for beginners.
I am an amateur musician and love playing odd instruments. Comes in a nice carrying case. Did not sound sharp or flat to me. If I were playing professionally I would look for one that looks less like a toy. I would also like it to be a bit bigger to fit my hands better. Be sure to clean after playing by holding down the button on the bottom while blowing. This is fun to mess around or practice with, but if you plan to do anything with it, you might look elsewhere.

Great value for price!
So the 32-key Hohner Student Melodica, is not the best or most expensive melodica out there. However, for the price I paid, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of construction. The instrument came in perfect pitch, contrary to a lot of other reviews saying that the C was sharp.Out of the box I was playing along with the band, no problems, except my limited lung capacity! (Chords are tough to sustain unless you are in great aerobic shape.) Also, mine came with a carrying case, which is awesome, it holds the hose attachment nicely, and gives the protection you would expect from a soft gig bag.So you could spend upwards of $500 for a real professional quality melodica if you are seriously into it, or play for a living, but if you are just curious, or want to add a nice sound to your repertoire, get the student version, its a great combination of quality and price.

In tune
Bought this for a gift. I have the larger one in black, I think this one has enough keys though, and it is in tune, and the red looks a lot better than I expected. These instruments add a nice folky feel to a band and only need basic piano skills to play.
