better than all of the other shower head softeners
I never write reviews, but felt I had to given my experience with this product. I purchased two of these chrome combo units and will be purchasing a third one today. It took me about 15-minutes to install each of these units. I have not had any leaking of any type, the rubber gasket o-rings provided with these units are excellent. Crystal quest was the only combo softener unit I could find that used both a cooper-zinc media filter and an active carbon media filter to remove chlorine and other contaniments from the water. The effect is immediate as you get a tingly feeling all over your body as soon as you begin using it, so you feel the softness of the water. The chlorine and rotten egg smell goes away immediately. We were shocked at how immediate it was. There was no decrease in water pressure and I would say that the water pressure increased almost two fold from our old shower head to this one--Making for a more exhilerating spa-like experience. We also wanted a combo unit with a high quality glossy chrome finish to continue the upscale look and feel of our other bathroom fixtures and this unit was the only one we could find that could also meet this requirement. It looks very nice and upscale as opposed to the all white models. My wife and daughters love using the handheld to wash their hair and they claim it has made a real difference is the softness of their hair, not leaving it dry, brittle and flaky as before. The same goes for their skin. I would highly recommend this product !

Awesome! Noticeable difference after just ONE shower!
Amazing customer service (Crystal Quest) and very good value of product for the cost. My 3rd (3 homes) shower head filter! These filters take the chlorine and many other things out of the water. I have very short hair so I don't notice the difference in the fluffy component of hair washed with this BUT I do notice my skin feels so much nicer - even after the first washing. I live in Phoenix and the water is just awful - about 780 TDS where I live and still notice a huge difference with these filters. I installed one for my mom at her request and she has longer hair and her hair has more volume, feels cleaner and healthier (quoting her). I just installed a second filter on her guest bathroom shower and didn't even need to reference the instructions - that's how easy they are to install! As far as technical know how - it's a cinch to install these. NO wrench is even required! Each piece comes separate in the box wrapped to perfection but don't let that scare you, it's to minimize scratching the pretty chrome and plastic during shipping/handling. There's a laminated card with step by step instructions included (quite mice actually), along with one extra black gasket that you may need when it comes to install a new filter (they last a year - pretty long time for shower filters). Even for a first time installer, it's a cinch. Esthetically these filters are still pretty sharp looking. I was wondering how they would look in her now house and actually, they look pretty updated alongside all of her new fixtures.

Leaks and the damage it causes will cost you $$$
4/18/23 - Installed filter with plumber's tape. It leaked but was bearable. 5/7/23 - Leaked PROFUSELY, and the water pressure went to a TRICKLE. Removed filter and saw that the media (sandlike substance) had hardened inside of the silver filter housing. It was like a rock that had to be chipped off. Replaced the filter and it still leaked. Then noticed that the mesh screen on the filter was busted where the media was spilling out of into the housing. 5/12/23 - Contacted seller and requested a replacement. 5/13/23 (morning) - Attached shower head without the filter, and water SPRAYED everywhere! On the ceiling, walls, floors...Inspected the showerhead attachment and it was split in 4 places. If the filter media had hardened then maybe the pressure damaged the showerhead... 5/13/23 (evening) - Purchased a new shower head and filter from The Home Depot ($$$). 5/26/23 - Two weeks and still no response from the seller on my filter replacement request. Of course, now I don't need a replacement but a REFUND. I DO NOT recommend this filter, brand, or seller. They shouldn't be an AMAZON marketplace seller if they sell defective products that fail within 30 days and don't respond to product replacement requests. NOTE: I don't have well water and live in a suburb

It works, but leaks...
I was skeptical about a shower filter, but the water here is horrible--making you feel coated in something. Ick. So, I looked into these shower filters, researched them, and this one was both budget-conscious and well reviewed. Here's what I think of it: PRO: 1, compact (not as small as others, though), 2, nice design, 3, easy to install--even came with the teflon tape. CON: 1, leaks at center seam (no biggie, it just drips in the shower), 2, lowers the shower head a good 5", so if you have a low shower to begin with, you will only get the middle of your back wet. You have to add one of those articulated extender arms to get the shower head above your head, 3, spits out carbon grains...when the shower is done and the pipe in the wall is draining back through the tub, you are left with carbon grains in the tub. They wash down, but that is telling me that the filter 'housing fabric' is breaking down--and it happened within the first week of use. I will admit, I have not "flipped" the filter as recommended by the manufacturer, as I am afraid it will add even more carbon bits to my pipes, potentially clogging them. All in all, it does work--and even "unflipped", it still works. It makes the water better, softer, cleaner and we are not left with some weird mineral film on us afterwards. I think it is a good product. July, 2012: After a year's use of this filter, it did fine--I never flipped the filter cartridge as recommended--for one reason, getting the thing apart (the housing unscrews in the middle) was like an act of god--and if it was that hard to unscrew, why did it drip at this seam? Weird. So, since I wasn't going to be re-installing it (as it would lower the shower head too much in a new place), I decided to wrestle with the thing and see it's inner workings. I found the reason I had the bits of carbon left over in the tub: the plastic mesh at the ends of the filter (a hefty little thing) had been torn apart by the water pressure. And I mean torn apart. Disintegrated. There was about 1/2 of the carbon still within the filter canister. Since I have no way of turning down the water pressure within the walls of the apartment building I live in, it was an interesting find and solved the mystery of the bits in the tub. I'd use this filter again in the right setting, but, unfortunately, I had to find a different filter for the shower--one that didn't lower the shower head as much.

Does not leak if installed correctly.
A lot of people say this leaks but if you use the provided gaskets correctly it does not. I’m on well water and it is hard and sometimes discolored slightly. This has done wonders and it is an obvious difference from my old shower head. Don’t know how long the filters will hold up because we have had it for only 2 weeks, but I bought a replacement filter so we should be good for sometime. I also don’t have the strongest water pressure but this head works just fine with it. We are very happy with the purchas.

Handheld and shower head filter
I like the water filter, but the shower head and handheld showerhead leaks, and the two and one bracket does not tighten so I can’t fasten the handheld as it’s supposed to be. This is really frustrating as I thought it was best to buy the entire kit from the company thinking it would be a better installation. I reached out to Amazon, but they want me to contact the company Crystal quest so we’ll see how that goes.

The quest for soft, manageable hair
I grew up in New York and absolutely never gave a second thought to the quality of our water. My hair was always soft, manageable, and shiny. Then I moved to the midwest where I found the hardest water in the U.S. It clanks as it comes out of the tap. You have to use a chisel to remove the residue from your counters. It leaves my hair dirty-looking, stringy, dull, and flat. Water softeners don't do a thing to help. Even moving to a neighborhood with so-called "city water" is no improvement. I tried every type of shampoo and conditioner, tried rinsing my hair in rainwater I collected in a barrel (that worked a bit though it can be quite a shock in the winter), and concocted a vinegar rinse. Finally, I purchased the Crystal Quest with its super-duper filter. Not only is my hair soft and manageable again, but my skin feels much better, too. It was easy to install and works great. If you live in an area with hard water, treat yourself and get one of these handheld showers!
