Bought to replace a kaput Garrett Pro-Pointer AT
The 18-20 month old Garrett Pro-Pointer broke & I reverted to a backup £12 pinpointer (which was as good as the Garrett)... Ordered yesterday, arrived today. Charged it up, no 9v battery like the Garrett. Selected program 2 - Vibrate ON, Audio ON, Sensitivity 2, very easy to do. Then customed the audio to Pitch, rather than Pulse. The overall quality is very good, better than the Garrett. Went detecting for a few hours & really impressed at how this pinpoints. The pitch starts at least a couple of inches away, the Garrett had to be within an inch of the object. Using the 'pitch' audio option is similar to the Equinox 900 audio, so works for me. Way more accurate and less time consuming than the Garrett I previously used. Expensive, but a lot better value/cheaper than the Garrett & works much better. It's rechargeable, looks better, feels better, pinpoints on a level I'm not use to & comes with a good secure holder/lanyard. Wish I'd bought this 20 months ago.

Perfect upgrade!
The XP MI-4 Pinpointer is a reliable, no-nonsense tool that delivers excellent performance for both beginners and more experienced detectorists. It’s lightweight, well-built, and has a comfortable rubberised grip that makes it easy to handle during longer sessions. With both tip and 360° detection, it’s very effective at quickly locating targets in the hole, helping to speed up recovery time significantly. The adjustable sensitivity levels and simple one-button control make it easy to use, while the retune feature allows for more precise pinpointing when you’re close to your find. One of its standout features is that it’s fully waterproof up to 6 metres, making it suitable for river, beach, and shallow water detecting, and the combination of audio, vibration, and LED alerts gives flexibility depending on your environment. The rechargeable battery is also a big plus, saving money on replacements over time. That said, it’s worth noting that it doesn’t include the wireless connectivity found in the more premium MI-6 model, and like many pinpointers, it can occasionally require recalibration in highly mineralised ground for best performance. Some users also find it works best when sensitivity is adjusted correctly rather than left on maximum. Overall, the MI-4 offers fantastic value for money, combining durability, ease of use, and solid performance without the higher price tag of premium models. It’s a dependable choice for anyone looking to improve their metal detecting efficiency.

Great Pinpointer
With a 2 year warranty and after that every part is available as a spare at a reasonable price. I switched from a Garret carrot when the button began to fail and the replacement circuit board was nearly the same price as a new pinpointer. Loving the built in battery. Just as sensitive as the carrot. You don’t need the MI-6 if you don’t have an XP detector.

Excellent
Very pleased with this purchase. Have bought several cheaper over the last few years and they don't last, and the signal quality is not good. So spent a bit more on this pointer and immediately I could tell the difference. Excellent build quality and functionality.

Great pinpointer. Quality above the rest.
A bit of a task to work out the button presses and what they do, but got there in the end. Good pinpointer, really sensitive. It works well in the field. Even picked up a small piece of gold - like 0.25g I have used a few pinpointers over the years - Minelab, Nokta etc, but this one is the best.

Just get this one.
I have a $20 pinpointer (Dmyond DMY-03) and it's just ok. It lags a bit and makes finding targets a bit tedious, but still better than no pinpointer. The functionality/settings are simple and limited but hey, it's cheap and it works. Good as a backup or to lend out. If you detect often, or even if you're just starting out like me but want to take it seriously, just get the XP. It's fast, responsive, incredible battery life. The continuous tone option is way better than the intermittent beeps IMHO. I don't think any other pinpointer has that option. It's sleek and small and feels very high quality. Have used under the water with zero issues, and you can still hear the pitch if it's shallow enough. If not the vibrate works great. The French may be eccentric but they make nice stuff! (Mostly cookware). I have a couple of cons but not enough to remove a star. I think it's still good enough to deserve a perfect review. Cons: -Not USB C. This is annoying. What, the company can't update this one design element? They would literally just have to change one tiny thing, the charging port. It's not a deal breaker because it comes with a mini USB cable, but it makes me feel like I'm in 2005. That being said I have already used the pinpointer many times, for hours at a time, and the still have over 2/3 battery life. Eventually I'll have to recharge it but not that often even with heavy use. So I guess it's whatever. -The light blinks when it's off. How stupid is this? The light blinks once every 4 seconds when the device it powered off to let you know that it has a charge. It is a very dim blink but still, why program the device to have a low power drain "feature" when you want it off? This cannot be turned off. Super stupid. -Another gripe with the light is the battery level reading. Every time you turn it on, the device will give a certain number of blinks to let you know the battery level. If you have the flashlight set to off, it will not do this. So to check the battery level you have to go through the process of turning the pinpointer on and off a few times in the right sequences, and then turn the light off again. I don't use the light and want it off to conserve battery, so I have found this little quirk to be annoying. Why not just have it give the battery level every time you turn it on even if the flashlight is off? Considering the aforementioned constant intermittent blink when the light is off, this seems like they focused the power savings thinking process in the wrong way.
