Homax 41072041218 Texture Touch Up Kit, Wall and Ceiling Texture and Sprayer

Gets the job done without buying that spray can or getting your hopper. They sell something similar to this but very expensive, so this is great! Only problem I see is the quality. I hope last for a while. The plastic is very thin. So for almost the same price as the can, this is a good deal. It comes with 3 packets of mud (popcorn, and regular). I think I can use my regular mud mix. But I ended up using the packet that came with it. I wish they made more sturdier and better quality ones so it'll last as part of my tools.

I didn't use the included packets of mud, instead I have tried both all purpose pre-mixed joint compund (thinned out a bit with water) along with easy sand 45 light weight setting compound. I had better results with the easy sand, then with the pre-mixed stuff, as I was able to mix it up to a perfect consistency. I highly suggest practicing a bit on some scraps of drywall, so that you can try different amounts of time and consistencies before you knock it down. I found 5 minutes was about right for perfect results. I also used a foam knockdown knife instead of a metal putty knife, as I could not get the consistent pressure correct with a metal knife. I would not use this for an entire wall, but for small patch or repair jobs, it is perfect! I also tried one of the cans of pressurized texture, this gun works way better than those things, which are insanely expensive. For just a little more than a single can of the spray texture, I was able to buy this gun and 18lbs of setting type compound. The thermostat picture is just after knocking it down (before a light sanding and painting) the wall picture is another repair I made that shows the finished result, after a light sanding, and painting. Unless you knew exactly where I was working, you'd never be able to see that some dude with a pump texture gun and a few youtube videos made these repairs.

The tool itself is not bad, the big issue is the mix you must make, not too much pasty not too much liquid, it is almost impossible to make a mix with ceiling texture usable with this tool, either it will be too much liquid then it will work but the applied texture will be crap or it will be too much pasty and it will clog. Unless you are the God of proper ceiling texture mixing, don't buy it.

I bought this for a 3'x8' section of wall I redid. I know it's bigger than what this thing is made for, but considering the mess the hopper and air compressor makes, I figured I'd give this a try. For the record, this room has fairly large splatters/orange peel type. I was very new at texturing when I did this room several years ago, and it is what it is. I managed to match it quite well with the Homax bicept-torturing device, aka this touch up kit. First off, ignore the directions. I also threw away the texture-powder that came with it, I just water down regular drywall mud (same stuff I use in my air-powered hopper). There's a red cap on top of the little hopper that you're supposed to punch a hole in. I removed the cap and tossed it. After mixing more mud than I'd ever need to a pancake-batter consistency (if you don't have a paint mixer for your drill, use a beater from your kitchen mixer. I guess you could even just use your mixer, just wash it right away), I used a red solo cup to pour it in where the red cap used to be. Then aim and pump, hard! I had craft paper spread out on the floor which caught almost all the mess, but don't think for a second you're going to stay clean using this. It drips, it leaks, it's messy. There are different settings on the sprayer, pick which one you want but keep in mind it'll move as you go. It even came apart on me a couple times, but it's no big deal to put it back together and keep going. Bottom line, it works! I folded up the craft paper and tossed it outside, hosed off the sprayer and mixer, changed clothes, and it was done. WAY less mess than if I'd gotten the hopper out.

This texture touch-up tool is easy to use and works well for small drywall repairs. It blends reasonably well with existing texture, but matching the original finish may take some practice and multiple applications. Overall, it's a decent option for quick touch-ups.

Some reviews are not being fair. Like anything in life you have to mastered the technique to get good results. Coming from a person that handles a few normal texture hoppers in a complete house remodels. Texture is just messy, so if you are going complain it’s messy, leave it for someone else. Yes , it leaks etc but once you get the mixture down right it works great. 1000% better than those expensive 25.00 spray texture cans that are terrible. I didn’t use the powder mix they send with it, just normal tape and float mud with water gets you what you need. Infact just throw everything away other than the mini hopper and the plastic spreader. Spraying a wall was a walk in the park for blending, the tiny bathroom ceiling was a pain but results were outstanding. Yes the hopper is cheap plastic and gauge light med and heavy is a cumbersome But it works, looking forward to the next wall patch I get called out in. There a few good utube vid out there showing people that tested and got it right.

Some of my jobs require some texture touchup, especially where there are patches involved. In the past for small jobs, I've used the cans of texture. Those work well for the first time you use them, but they are not reusable, I don't care what the company claims. I've tried everything to salvage them, but they clog after the first use and even cleaning the tip is not effective. Back to this unit. I found that I could mix my own texture in any container, then pour it into the hopper by unscrewing the hopper and pouring it into the side that goes back into the pump. You will notice that the opening for texture on the hopper is small. Less than a 1 inch hole, i'd say. It works fine you you put the texture in a bag then extrude out of a small hole in the corner. Or use the texture bags that come with this little hopper. I found that with a bit of practice, I could do nice touchups of any size really with this unit. You just have to be close to the wall or ceiling, probably 4 inches away, then it's a succession of quick pumps, each one tosses out just a few spats of texture, so you have to do it a bunch. I did find that quicker pumps resulted in a farther 'spat' and the results were better. The thing I like the most about this unit is that I'm pretty sure it will work the next time I need it to, unlike the cans. It's far easier than breaking out the hopper. Far less messy too. It's just a nice thing to have if you ever have to do small texture updates. And it's adjustable to small, med, and large, I found that med was a nice size for my application.

The mud worked fine, but I couldn't get the sprayer to spray for the life of me. I ended up applying the mud with the tongue depressor they give you to mix the mud. I dabbed it on, and used the scraper to feather it out. This worked for my needs since a smoother texture was my goal anyway. The sprayer was useless.

This texture tools works fine. I have used regular dry wall mud... Just have to thin it with a small amount of H2O. Works fine for small areas.

No sirve para nada, seguí las instrucciones paso a paso. Nunca salió nada de la mezcla de la pequeña pistola, intenté ponerlo a mano y solo con tocarlo, se desprendió del techo, horas de intentarlo, para que no sirva ni la pasta ni la pistola, solo se ensució toda mi sala. Pésimo producto, quiero la devolución de mi dinero, aunque la de mi tiempo, nadie me lo va a regresar.

Very cheap made product that doesn't even work. The popcorn won't come out of the nozzle no matter how big I make the hole to be. Also the popcorn is made of foam, which most certainly won't match your ceiling. I've tried everything to fix my ceiling, anything that's sold on Amazon (brash on popcorn, spray can, hand spray gun) none of them will give you a perfect match and in general just a waste of money and effort. Truth is, if you really want a good match, you need to create a patch the same way it was originally done. SO, my advice is to buy a bag of popcorn texture that matches your popcorn size(fine, medium, coarse), which will cost less than $20 for a 40 Lb bag (on LifeandHome online) then rent a hopper gun and compressor at your local tool store (another $30/day). With less than $50, you'll be able to do it professionally and get a perfect match to your existing ceiling. Stop wasting money on these quick-fix solutions.
