In xlr input - rca output setup, does it invert and sum up negative with positive signal(removing noise), and then only pass to rca?

Using XLR at both ends gives a better sound, if using XLR at one end and the other end is RCA, the sound output will slightly lower down and need to increase the volume and there will be no sound distortion.

Can this be used for a speaker selector (ie xlr out of mixer to: (a) pair of studio monitors or (b) pair of powered pa speakers?

Hello. We don't recommend using it to connect speakers directly. The cable can only handle around 50W power. It may not be enough.

I have 2 pair of "active" or amplified speakers. I have a digital audio interface with line level balanced outs. Will this unit support this setup?

Yes. I’m running Uaudio x8p analogue out to Nobsound 1 in 3 out to power 2 pairs Genelec active monitors. Works well so far.

What is the difference between this and the one with i/o on both sides with asin b07875kc4f ?

One has three inputs. The selected input outputs to the one and only output. The other has one and only one input and is switched to one of three outputs.
