Great reading if you are buying or selling a house
I've only used a home inspector once, as I only have bought one previously lived in house, and so that was the only time I thought I would need one. Well, after reading this book, I wish I would have used a home inspector like Wally when I "built" a new house. I also wish I would have used one in SELLING some houses. I never thought of doing that, because I'd have to pay for it...The role of the real estate agent, building permits and inspectors, using an old home inspection (to save money, of course), the approximate cost you might pay for a thorough inspection -- all these and many more topics are covered in depth. I'd start reading a section, thinking it might not apply to me, and then - yep, it does! This book reinforced many reasons for me to use a home inspector. My only regret is that I probably won't be selling and buying too many more times. If and when I do, I'll certainly employ someone like Wally.I've listened to Wally's radio show in Jacksonville for years. I can hear his voice behind all the book's words.A good, informative read.

Wally Conway has revealed the Secrets - Thanks, Wally!
As a professional home inspector in Fort Worth, TX and owner of House Exam Inspection and Consulting, I cannot exaggerate my respect for the wisdom that Wally Conway has shared with the entire real estate industry in this little book. He has spoken the truth about the root causes of friction between these professionals, and revealed those "Secrets" to home buyers, as well.If all the professionals in the system (agents, home inspectors, lenders, appraisers, surveyors, etc) would each take the time to carefully explain their own services to the clients, listen carefully to the expectations of those clients, and then explain what they are prepared to deliver to those clients, we would all have happier clients. And more deals would go to closing. At House Exam Inspection, for example, we have always expressed appreciation to the agents who have trusted their clients to us. We tell them we appreciate them, because we are borrowing their clients, but guess what: They become OUR clients, too! And we are definitely going to serve their interest in understanding the home, so they can make informed decisions.IN other words, we embrace a team approach, and we believe that EVERY home buyer and seller deserves no less. Thanks, Mr. Conway, for your honesty and the opportunity you has provided for greater understanding throughout the industry.

Not practcal
I was hoping for a book that walks through the home inspection process. This book doesn't do that. It's basically a poorly-edited series of vague musings and truisms on the real estate business with very little practical information. In the hands of a better publisher this could probably have at least been interesting, as the author clearly has the credentials, but that was not to be.

Time and Money Wasted
I expected to read a book which told about things that Home Inspectors looked for. Instead, it was just a long ramble directed (I think) at telling would-be Home Inspectors what to expect. I did something with this book that I have never done before; I threw it away.

Limiting Risk by Using a Home Inspector
I purchased the Kindle version to read at the beach and found Wally did a great job in describing the relationship between all the parties involved in a home purchase and how each reduce the risk the home buyer faces when purchasing a home. A very enjoyable read I am purchasing the paperback version to add to my library.Get a copy today you will enjoy the read!David Haught ACI, MIES, EP

but a good read if you'd like to see the personality and ...
This is much more than just a book about the processes of conducting a home inspection. The author really lets his personality shine through in his writings to give you some humorous insight to the various ins and outs of the job. Not a book if you are looking for detailed instructions, but a good read if you'd like to see the personality and the human give and take that goes along with such a job. Highly recommend.

A Must-Read for Home Buyers
Wally is a true expert in every sense when it comes to home inspections. Some experts talk a good game but Wally has walked that talk as an inspector for years. The word that seems to come up more than any other in this book is 'risk'. Wally realizes that buying a home is risky and that the job of the inspector is to reduce that risk. This book gives you loads of information to help you avoid the pitfalls of a problem property and reduce your risk.I wish I had had this book 30 years ago when I was first buying property. I'm glad I have it now.

I may be a bit biased, but...
This man did my home inspection in 1996. He was selected by my Realtor He was quite thorough and I knew exactly all of the pros and cons of the the 56 yo home I was purchasing. The book is written in a folksy manner, but covers many aspects of what a home inspection provides and what a consumer should look for when hiring such a service. Points include the liability of the inspection, describes for whom the inspection is done, as well as the role of all parties involved in a real estate transaction with respect to such inspections. Clarifies difference between an appraisal and an inspection.
