Greenhouse

Yellowjackets have the ability to write and perform music that are pleasing to the ears of a casual listener, but still reveals a sophisticated use of modern harmony and complex rythms. Stylistically, they cover a great variety of influences. With the addition of Bob Mintzer on saxophones, the band sounds more robust and connected to the jazz idiom. On this record you get an added orchestral sound, arranged by the great Vince Mendoza.

Never really comes together or gels for me. The talent is there but as a friend of mine says about some jazz, its as if each musician is playing a different song at the same time.

Very nice album. I bought it because I believe it was the first album to feature Bob Mintzer, who obviously joined the band and went on to be an indispensable element of their "sound." Arrangments are nice and tight and very melodic, "Invisible People," while being melodic and going thru several key centers, will find you humming it's melody and expanding the key centers they transit toward the end of the tune, in your head. Russ Ferrante's comping is nice, with quite a few of those "cluster-type" voicings that a lot of us are using, starting in the late 80's or so (like D-Eb-Bb and other "like-flavors"). Overall, one of their finest albums.

A true classic I once had and lost. This is one of the Yellowjackets best albums. I was ecstatic when I received it and I haven't stopped playing it as yet. I especially love the title song "Greenhouse" which is hauntingly beautiful and the also beautiful "Seven Stars". If you are a Yellowjackets fan as I am you have to add this one to you collection.

Now I rest assured that I have everything this group ever produced. The clean recording process makes this cd a special part of my collection. The music is great. The service by the supplier was great.

I had not heard this in quite a while; with the exception of the title cut. I had forgotten how gotten how good this was. I am glad I replaced it!

This is music I take to beach resort locations and listen to while I open the patio door and merge in the beach shore sounds... makes for cool memories. Great music.

This songs, the arrangements, solos...awesome...This is a timeless classic...clearly one Yellowjackets best efforts.It hard to get tired of hearing this CD

Yellowjackets are consistently good throughout the years they have been recording but for me some of their most poignant music and beautifully 'symphonic pieces' were written relatively early in their career. Greenhouse is certainly a case in point.

Il maestro Zawinul, fondatore di Weather Report, cui la band deve moltissimo, aveva visto giusto, pur senza volersi sbilanciare, sull'effettivabravura di questi signori musicisti. Però i musicisti titolari che hanno inciso Greenhouse sono: Haslip, Ferrante e William Kennedy alla batteria, con vari ospiti a corredo tra cui Bob Mintzer che nel 1991, anno di uscita del disco, cominciava a razzolare attorno all’idea di una membership stabile. Questo disco sta ‘in mezzo’ alla produzione e contiene elementi caratterizzanti del primo periodo e consistenti ‘semi’ dei dischi futuri, più spostati verso il jazz e dove Bob Mintzer, appena subentrato come semplice ospite a Marc Russo, comincia a guadagnarsi i galloni sul campo, risultando in futuro essere il centro tonale degli esperimenti compositivi armonici e melodici della band.Questo è un altro di quei gruppi che, una volta sentito un disco, te li devi comperare tutti pian piano. Ma questo signori " è il disco " in assoluto. E' impossibile citare una traccia che sia migliore delle altre.Ma forse sì una chicca assoluta - track n°8 "Invisible people" potrebbe essere propedeutica a chi si volesse avvivinare a questa band che, non dimentichiamolo, non ha sbagliato un disco. Assolutamente consigliato da pelle d'oca...P.S. Ho potuto constatare che anche alle mogli, di solito refrattarie a questi generi musicali, è piaciuto questo disco.Un caro saluto a tutti e buona musica.
