The Gibson practice reed, while ideally suited to Gibson practice chanters, is also an excellent reed for other brands. The blades are wide allowing for more air, thereby nearly eliminating the "shutting off" phenomenon. This design also produces a loud, full tone. Made by Gibson Classical Bagpipes. Review: Should have been packaged better. - These are good reeds, It seats well in the reed seat and sounds good. The only thing I didn’t like was how it was packaged, this is of no fault of Gibson because it was shipped by desertcart. The reed itself was inside a little ziplock bag and then inside a larger desertcart envelope, with nothing protecting the reed from being bent or damaged. These are delicate hand made pieces of instruments and damage easily if they are not handled with care, and it was practically sheer luck that it wasn’t damaged. Had it been a cane reed it probably wouldn’t have survived. Review: Multiple instruments reed - Purchased as a practice chanter reed I also used them in Uilleann regulators and GHB practice pipes. Good tone! They are a quality reed. Best buy. Well built. The seller did a good job. I will be a return customer. On a practice chanter if the sound changes the reed is wet. Try using circular breathing.

Worked well!
I only starred four out of five because I ordered two. NOW, BEFORE I CONTINUE, I MUST NOTE THAT I ONLY HAVE BEEN PLAYING A CHANTER FOR NINE MONTHS, HAVE NO GUIDANCE,AND DONT REALLY KNOW VERY MUCHABOUT CHANTER REEDS. One reed operated markedly better than the other reed. But you had to put pressure on to make the appropriate pitch for a chanter. It felt like my lungs would burst. I don't play a wind instrument so that problem might just be me :-) the other reed played really low around C2. I purchased this one to go with the McCALLUM practice chanter that is the same size as a bagpipe chanter. Because a review on that chanter said this reed was better. The reed did work well once I was accustomed to lung exercise. It had great sound quality!

Good Sound, but loose wrapping
This reed actually has a decent sound in the chanter. The wrapping however, was loose and required a bit of work and rewrapping and the reeds themselves we not straight. Because this is a wider reed, I had to reposition a couple of times to make sure it didn’t hit the inside of the chanter and dampen the sound.

Not the best quality
I bought 2 practice reeds. One had a screechy quality, was hard to blow, and I could not get a consistent note from it, so I tried the other, It sounded fine, but after a week or two, the cord started to fray. They are also on the pricy side

Vast improvement over the reed that came with the Chanter
This reed produces a much better sound with much less effort. You can actually play more softly and not blow with all your might. Wider than my previous reed but still fit.

Awesome for new player
I ordered these reeds because they had been recommended. I purchased a cheaper practice chanter and these reeds were to replace the ones that came with the chanter. I watched a video on how to sand the ends just a little and after doing that, they are easy to play and keep a pretty good tone.
