HOT! HOT! HOT! And almost a Darwin Award.
I bought this submersible heater to reuse my bathwater. I add many pounds of mineral salt to my bath and wanted to get repeated hot water soaks before I drain my tub (and all that salt). I connect the heater cord to a heavy duty extension cord, submerge the heater below the bath water, wrap the heater cord snugly around the bathtub spout to secure the heater placement, and insure the heater does not touch my porcelain tub. 5 hours later, it's time to soak!I do not have children or a dog, so the only safety precaution I take is to prevent myself from passing out and becoming human stew: I ALWAYS unplug the power cord prior to entering my tub. I also avoid touching the heater that remains hanging from my tub spout for ~5 minutes while its temperature reduces to water temperature and becomes safe to touch. My Darwinian lesson-learned: Heating bath water overnight is problematic, so crack the bathroom window or turn on the fan before you go to bed. Overnight, a full bathtub of water will heat to unbearably scalding hot and you'll have to wait for it to cool down to soak. Additionally, you'll have turned your bathroom into a STEAM ROOM. A steam room sounds sexy - until you notice that you have to wipe condensation off EVERY surface (the ceiling and toilet tank base too), and the tile floor will be dangerously slippery. Also, the mold resistant name brand paint ('lifetime limited warranty' acrylic latex) formed blisters on one wall. I left my bathroom window open (cold winter day), the blisters deflated, and my wall returned to normal.

Exactly what I needed for a great price
Disclaimer: this is just how I use it and though it's been great, I may be bending a few of the safety rules. Please be careful and heat your water responsibly lol. That said: some genius put the water heater all the way across the house from the bathrooms, and topping off with hot water for longer baths was extremely wasteful. I bought this and a surge protector with a switch on it for easy toggling on and off. AMAZING and so much easier. Plus if you like to use any added salts or fragrance to the water, you won't have to dilute them. I leave this on about 20-30 minutes at a time when the bath cools, depending on how cold the air temp is. The guard with holes is safe to touch even when it's operational, but the water wafting through it is still hot and might be uncomfortable to some. No big deal if you put it at the foot of the tub and just keep your feet a couple inches away. I recommend having some ventilation available for the steam, which gave off a stronger smell than usual while this was running, vaguely like chlorine. In all this product does exactly what I hoped and does it quickly! Now I want to get a stock tank or something and use it as the world's cheapest jacuzzi lol. Will update with pics if I find a suitable one. :)

I am using it to heat a small stock tank soaking tub that I use outside.
Was really impressed by how fast this was able to heat up a 4 gallon pail of water from cold. It took about 10 minutes to scalding. I am using it to heat a small stock tank soaking tub that I use outside. If immersed straight into the tub it took about five hours for it to come up to scalding from cold tapwater. ( I have no idea how many gallons my tank is but it’s about 2 feet wide 3 feet high and 4 feet long) Obviously I do not sit in the with heater immersed I wait for it to come up to temperature and then keep a 4 gallon pail outside the tub that I heat and add when my tub is cooling. Then I just use the same bucket to remove water from my now warmed up tub and heat that. Keep this process going as long as you’re enjoying your soak. Worked like a charm. I’m not sure what my expectation was but I was also surprised at how large the immersion heater is. The metal piece is about 1 1/2 feet long and about 5 inches wide at the widest part, Also like that when the heater is plugged in there’s a small light at the plug end to let you know that it’s working.

Fast and HOT for a bucket, not so much for a tub.
When used in a stockpot roughly the size of a five gallon bucket, the water is scalding in under ten minutes. As this is a BUCKET heater, not a BATHTUB heater, I must say this product is exactly what it claims to be, and it's fabulous for when I have to handwash small loads of laundry but don't want to use my ice cold well water.I got this because the item description mentioned heating bathtubs, and I can't afford to replace my actual water heater just now. Maybe if you have a fiberglass tub it works, but I have an ancient cast iron bathtub, and I think the cast iron was acting as a heat sink. After THREE HOURS the bath water was only tolerably warm. Taking into consideration that my tap water is ICE COLD due to the winter month and lack of proper water heater, and given that this does say it is a BUCKET heater regardless of mentioning bathtub use in the description at the time of my purchase, I will still say it's a great product for it's named use.

Great For Heating Baths!
I bought this because I *love* baths, but the water in my apartment barely gets hotter than lukewarm; inconvenient for showers, but impossible for enjoying a bath. I had a mishap carrying boiling water upstairs to heat the water (I love baths), that could have been a lot worse, but scared me enough to never do that again. Despite my general hesitancy with the electricity/water combo, I figured I'd give this a try and am so, so glad I did.Though I imagine for most folks the temperature would be hot enough after 30 minutes to an hour, I like crazy hot baths so I let it heat for an hour and a half. I have no problem with this time frame, as I can do other things and am not tethered to the tub or stove for hot water. My bathroom outlet is the kind with a "mini breaker," and I have had no issues with it.I hook it over the bath faucet handle so it doesn't sink too deep, and the water line in my full bath tub goes just above the cylinder. However silly the whole situation sounds, I am so glad to have this thing, and hopefully this is helpful to anyone else in a similar situation.
