Just received and so far am pleased with the purchase. It has what looks like a brushed metal surface, very sleek. It is plug and play so it requires no set-up at all - literally just plug it into a USB port and play a CD or DVD. The first movie I played cued right up, all good. The only thing - and this is super minor - the front plastic strip on the front of the disc draw was not fully attached on the left side. There are a couple of tiny clips on the back side and what I had to do was just snap them into place and it seems perfectly secure now. Not a big deal, but perhaps should have been checked before it was packaged.

I use this drive only occasionally, and it is a hit or miss. Sometimes, it's just fine. Quiet, spins up disc just fine. Other times, you can hear it in the next room clicking and humming away trying to read the disc. I have tried other drives on those disc and the other drive reads them just fine. Same type of disc too, regular CDs or DVDs. Nothing was wrong with the disc, this drive just has a hard time reading a basic disc sometimes.

This product is not working for me, which is odd since the product description reads that it's compatible with Windows 10. When I plug it into my Surface Pro, it makes a loud grinding noise and the light flashes yellow for a long time (not sure if this is normal). I've unplugged it and plugged it in again and it seemed to make my PC malfunction as the screen blacked out. I unplugged it again and my laptop returned to normal. Now I'm afraid to use it for fear it could jack up my laptop. What a waste.

I have used this drive for a while. This is a really good DVD/CD drive that is compatible with Mac and has high speed. With a lite weight and good quality, I can easily take it with me for business travel with no worry. HIGHLIGHT: the USB cable is hidden on the back which is nice since you will not need to worry about taking any USB cable.

These days laptops don't have an optical driver. This comes quite handy for example to burn CDs for our outdated cars if no Bluetooth connectivity. Works great without a driver installed. Its 24x speed if curious. What interesting is, the description says incompatible with macos higher than Yosemite. My Sierra imac actually recognizes the CD in it and plays well.

I rarely use dvd at home, so when I tried watching my first movie, it started to play, and then stalled. It happened again after 3 tries. I used my old computer dvd to play the same dvd, so the dvd was not the problem. Cheap junk product.
