Suprizingly good resolution.
I've always wanted one of these, but was put off because they always seem to not have fine enough resolution. This one is very good. It really earns 5 stars. Here's what I found important, and how it had all these features.1) Great resolution. The fingers are so thin, you can capture the tiniest detail, especially trim reveals.2) The fingers are easy to move, easy to lock. Because the locking mechanism is on the side, you can lock the fine position before you move it from your surface.3) You can use both sides, upside down or upside right. That gives you 4 contour surfaces incase one of your employees ruins part of it.4) It's really wide. 10" is a huge profile to capture.5) The ends of the fingers are sloped. This let's you capture a profile thats flush with the surface (floor e.g.), or capture the profile that's 3/4" off the surface, if it doesn't come in contact.Other good aspects: It stores flat, it's easy to trace the contour with a pencil onto your tile (or whatever), its fast to use.I definitely recommend this to contractors and DIYers alike.

Fine enough, but not great for super detailed cuts
This works well enough for outlining a cut line around an intrusion like a pipe, but the item title when I ordered said it was for a 5 and 10 inch gauge, and I only got a 10 inch. That's fine, since this is a little janky and not necessarily great for detailed cuts - I'll likely pay a little more to have a nicer quality smaller gauge. This came with an allen key that arrived a little rusty already, which doesn't make me very confident of its longevity going forward.

Decent, but not precise
I think this gauge is most useful for rough estimates or measurements where you are not worried about precision. It's decently made and locks the gauge in place nicely, but the individual pieces are stiff and don't move freely enough to fully and accurately contour to what you're measuring. After multiple tries, I couldn't get it to match up exactly and always had pieces that were off or not lined up. That being said, it was aligned enough to get a rough measurement that you could probably work off of to get a cut that's close enough to work.

Fantastic Tool for Flooring Projects
I recently got another set that looked similar to this product, but it was blue. My husband and I are putting quarter round around the baseboards of our home after upgrading from carpet to luxury vinyl plank.Cutting corners has always been a huge fear of mine... the slightest angle off and you can waste a ton of product. Therefore, when somehow our last tool like this one went missing (we think it was swiped by my father-in-law, who fell in love with the tool while helping us and won't admit it, ha), we HAD to get another one. It makes cutting corners perfectly a complete breeze. No more wasted, expensive wood products!Highly recommend it for any of you DIYers!

A bit too tight
I got this because I do a lot of woodworking projects which inevitably means I need to cut out some odd shapes. Before I used to get a piece of cardboard and cut it to fit, then use that as a template. I got this contour gauge because it seemed like it would make it easier to make templates for some of those complex shapes. However, what I've found is that in order for it to work, it has to be set up very specifically. The band that slides around the feelers can get a little diagonal very easily, which means that the fingers get pushed together and thus instead of feeling around a shape, they just get bound up so you have to start over. While it still works, sometimes it seems easier to go back to CAD. Cardboard-aided design.

Amateur Tool for an Amateur like Me
I've seen these on TV for years, and finally came across this tool when I am in the process of putting plywood flooring in my attic space. Not needing too "precise" cuts, this has been a headache saver for reverse and obtuse angles requiring Trig and other high-level 5th grade calculations to get around pipes and studs. This has saved me sooooo many hours (remember amateur), it was well worth the money. It's made of plastic spines that are kind of easy to manipulate. I'm sure there are other uses for this tool that I am not aware of.If you're looking for something that has finer adjustments, this isn't it. But for rough cuts that aren't being judged by Norm Abram, then this is what you want.

Medium resolution of detail, works great
I find the size to be perfect for most things I'd need a profile on. The plastic fins move smoothly, and are easy to rest. The lock function securely retains the profile once set. An allen key is included to fine-tune the friction amount that you want. I found I wanted slightly less friction than it came set with, and the adjustment was easy. The thickness of the fins means that the resolution of the profile is probably not what I would consider "fine", but it's more than adequate for most uses. I think this is a well executed tool at a very reasonable price.

Despite the Item Title - You do NOT get a 5 & 10 inch Gauge - Just a 10 inch
The tool is super handy and works well. Each sliding piece appears to be about 1/16 inch thick so it does do a pretty good job of contouring around most surfaces. I would prefer if they were closer to 1/32 inch but I imagine the tool would be prone to bending or breaking if it were that thin given the plastic components. The tool itself is pretty simple and made mostly of plastic apart from the lock which is metal and does a good job of clamping the slides together so that you can trace your contour. It is also super easy to use and I know personally I will get a lot of use out of it.So you are probably wondering why I only gave it 3 stars? I did so because the item title states 5 & 10 inch so I thought I was getting a 5 inch and a 10 inch gauge. Amazon has many of these gauges which are sold in a 2 piece 5 & 10 inch pair and I thought that was what I would get however I only got a 10 inch gauge. Also at the time I ordered this and as the time of posting this review, you have many options here on Amazon to purchase a 5 & 10 inch together for the same price as this one. If you look closely at these gauges you can see most of them sold here are identical but sold under different brand names. So if you don't mind paying extra for a single gauge, this is otherwise a good tool.
