the original lead singer of aphrodites child brings his first solo album to our ears and very good it is too. very atmospheric in places. if you like demis Roussos hits he had--you will like this. an early hit "we shall dance" is on it. BUY IT NOW.

Before going commercial Demis Roussos released this album in the wake of the splitting Aphrodite's Child. It is excellent and heralds back to the previous two A.C. albums but with a greek mystical feeling to it. Get hold of a copy now!!!!

This album - also known as 'Fire And Ice' - was originally released in 1971 and is Demis Roussos' debut LP, recorded after the demise of Aphrodite's Child.This album will come as a slight surprise to those accustomed to the MOR output with which he made his name, as it still carries traces of his previous group, acting for the most part as a homage to his native Greece.Much of the material has a distinctive, spacious, Greek feel to it with subtle progressive touches in evidence throughout as Demis pursues a pop-oriented direction with little to suggest the romantic direction he would pursue on his next LP 'Forever And Ever' (1973).The album features his first European hit 'We Shall Dance', one of the few tracks to hint at what would come next as the bulk of the material sees Roussos almost carrying from where Aphrodite's Child left off, albeit it in a more commercial vein on a record which makes for an absorbing listen and, truth be told, is probably his best album.A must have for Roussos fans which constantly surprises.

The Digital Transfer showed up the grittiness of the original recording. (Which wasn't the greatest to begin with!)The musical content was great.Apart from these niggles, I'm delighted to have a new copy, to replace my crackly Vinyl original!The sleevenotes were very informative.I would recomend it unreservedly to a Demis Roussos/Aphrodite's Child completest.

I grew up a military brat in Europe in the late '60s and early '70s, and I had heard Aphrodite's Child and later Demis Roussos' oeuvre on the radio as a staple. My first A.C. LP was "666", an apocalyptic horrorshow that mixed intelligent lyrics with pop stuff - plus an absolutely terrifying performance by avant-garde singer Diamanda Galas! Later I bought the Greatest Hits LP and remembered how good these Greek musicians were, even when Vangelis and Demis produced pop pablum for the (mostly) Euro masses afterwards.And then, after my now-85 yr. old mother told me how much she loved Demis Roussos' voice, I figured that I would dig into the archives of the earliest Demis solo stuff and discovered this 1971 gem. All I can say is... HOLY $#!+ !!!!!!! This is an incredibly complex album that will sit well among Van Der Graaf Generator and Genesis types of progressive "rock-pop" with a few excursions into melodic pop-land. But still - WHAT A VOICE this man had/has!! The Greek influences abound, and I have to say that to TRULY appreciate it, listen to it start-to-finish in one setting with great audio and a comfortable chair (plus any other, er, aural enhancements you may want to avail yourselves with...), and if you are open-minded at all about the origins of so-called "world music", pop/rock esoterica, etc., you will NOT be disappointed!

Premier disque en solitaire de M. Demis Roussos. Superbe album. J'espère que certains albums des années 70 réapparaîtront à leur tour...(forever and ever, my only fascination, souvenir, happy to be...,). Je trouve que c'est la meilleure période musicale de cet artiste.

....befand sich Demis Roussos, als er diese LP/ CD aufnahm: Das Kapitel Aphrodite`s Child war noch nicht ganz am Ende (666 folgte ein Jahr später als Endpunkt) Und er war noch nicht auf dem Schlager- Schnulzen- Trip, der ihn einige Zeit später in ganz Deutschland so berühmt/ berüchtigt machte.Wir haben hier Titel, die sich nahtlos an die legendäre "666" der Childs hätten anfügen lassen. Wir haben hier mit "We shall dance" aber auch schon einen Vorboten der künftigen Schlagerkarriere.Auf "On the Greek Side of My Mind", nomen est omen, lebt D.R. weitgehend seine griechische Seite aus, (be)sucht er seine griechischen Wurzeln. Das Ganze ist dann ziemlich folkloristisch geraten. Ohne ein Folk- Album zu sein: Viele Melodien, die Instrumentierung und nicht zuletzt die Art des Gesangs erinnern immer wieder an seine alte Heimat. Demis Roussos lebte ja zur Zeit der Aufnahmen (aufgrund der politischen Lage in Griechenland) schon einige Zeit in Paris. Dort entstanden die Aufnahmen, und man kann unterstellen, dass das Album aus einer Art von Phantomschmerz- Therapie entstanden ist.Die Produktion ist einfach brillant: Die Stimmen und Instrumente sind sauber im Stereo- Bereich zu orten und gut verteilt. Das Ganze ist ein Breitwandkino, wie es nur wenige CD`s liefern. Man hat das Gefühl, mitten in der Aufführung zu sitzen. Der Autor dieser Rezension, Besitzer einer stattlichen Anzahl von Tonträgern, muss an dieser Stelle zugeben, dass er nur wenig Musikquellen dieser Art sein Eigen nennt.

This CD combines the music from the 70-ties with greek music in a very attractive way. Personally this is for me the only good Demis Roussos album.
