Even better on second viewing
Classic Tom Cruise vehicle, with the action, high stakes, good acting, and solid production value. Lots of twists and turns in the storyline, which make a rewatch even more interesting, when you know who everyone really is and what's really happening. Climactic ending with Morgan Freeman loving every minute of it. Just a solid sci-fi movie, with the usual bits and pieces that don't quite make sense if you stop to think about it.

The gem of a film and a masterpiece of sci-fi movie
This is one of the most underrated films in sci-fi. An absolute gem and perfect movie from start to finish. A flawless masterpiece of science fiction. Tom Cruise is phenomenal. The film is an immersive experience of spacious and future environments set to a deeply emotive musical score that supercharges key drama. I've watched Oblivion several times and it only gets better

Visually Stunning Sci-Fi Epic
In his follow-up effort to 2010's Tron: Legacy, Joseph Kosinski brings us Oblivion, a visually striking and futuristic sci-fi epic that boasts a strong performance from Tom Cruise and an intriguing, albeit recycled, story. In 2017, Earth is transformed and deemed inhospitable due to an invasion by an alien race nicknamed the Scavs. Sixty years after this event, the human race has abandoned the planet for the Saturn moon of Titan. Only two humans remain, Jack (played by Tom Cruise), a security repairman who is tasked with fixing security drones, and Victoria (played by Andrea Riseborough), Jack's communications officer and partner. Due to join their fellow compatriots on the enormous space station known as the TET in two weeks, a vessel crash-lands on Earth and causes Jack to question everything he knows about the people he trusts, his mission, and ultimately himself. The biggest achievement of the film belongs to Kasinski, who's vision and direction make this film an absolute wonder to behold. Much like Tron: Legacy, Oblivion contains breathtaking landscapes and dazzling futuristic designs. The look and feel of decimated Earth is truly spectacular and oddly realistic. It's an amazing achievement in visual effects, and it's for this reason alone that seeing the film is worth it.Another impressive factor of the movie is the cast, which is quite small. Jack and Victoria get the bulk of the screen time as the first half of the film is devoted almost entirely to them. Luckily, Cruise and Riseborough have a great chemistry and pull of the "last two people on Earth" thing quite nicely. Cruise continues to prove age has not diminished his action-star status and he's particularly good here. The film is more character-driven than the previews would have you believe so having a versatile and well-known actor in the lead spot is a definite plus. A lot of credit also has to be given to Riseborough who is absolutely brilliant in her role as the content worker bee who doesn't want to see the facts laid out in front of her.The one caveat most people seem to have with the movie is that it heavily borrows ideas from many other sci-fi flicks, including Moon, the Matrix, Total Recall, and Eagle Eye to name a few. I find this kind of silly because most sci-fi films borrow from each other in some way or another and while most of Oblivion's ideas may not be entirely original, the execution and visuals more than make up for this. It's an inventive and strikingly beautiful sci-fi epic that holds it's own when it comes to character development and overall story. If you're a fan of sci-fi (or any of the above-mentioned films) definitely check this out.

Good sci fi, great acting
If you like a good science fiction tale along the lines of Phillip K Dick and the Strugatsky brothers, you'll like this film by Joseph Kosinksi a lot (and don't avoid it because you didn't like or care less about some of his other films like Tron Legacy or Top Gun Maverick). .... The all star cast, led by Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman and Olga Kurylenko delivers all star performances across the board. 5 stars - and how did I miss this back in 2013?

6 Out Of 5 Stars
Oblivion is one of the true greats of the Science Fiction genre in a rare group that includes 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Alien, Blade Runner, Tron, Terminator, The Matrix, and Ex Machina. Oblivion, like Ex Machina, is smart Sci-Fi that explores the romantic human element of existing in a world taken over by technology. Initially I dismissed Oblivion because in the trailers it looked like a Matrix copycat which could not be farther from the truth. Oblivion was writer/director Joseph Kosinski's sophomore film after the very good Tron Legacy and before the mega hit Top Gun Maverick. If you love a space age love story set in a post apocalyptic world with stunning visual effects do not miss Oblivion!
