Mcusta 181 Nobunaga Folder
This knife is elegant. The fit and finish of the parts is excellent. The steel is shiny, well-shaped and razor sharp. The micarta scales are not as grippy as those on a Bob Lum folder that was purchased from Japaneseknifedirect.com. The maker used a small ball mill to create long ridges along the scales for grip and style. The logo is laser engraved on the grip, which fills the palm more than typical flat G-10 scales. There is no belt clip, but a belt holster was included.Cons: The paper micarta is a bit slick. Linen or canvas would have more friction for retention in the hand. It was impossible to open the knife smoothly with one hand, because the scales hang over the thumb hole at full thickness. I took a dremel tool and used several tips to hog out a groove to ease the thumb to thumb hole opening process. The thumb hole has a burr, which will have to be polished and chamfered. There is no jimping on the top or bottom. I may take an engraving tool and stipple the areas where jimping should occur. The thumb hole is cut too close to the top of the blade, so I will probably not do any file work there. I will probably stipple the grip with the engraving tool.Overall this is a nice looking knife, with great quality control of manufacturing. It just needs tuning up in a few areas. I will probably not use it for EDC. The Benchmade Griptillian still holds that spot.
