I have had a couple WS2811 LED strips and been controlling them with my own programs on a couple Arduino boards. I started having some troubles with my boards and was not really certain if my Arduino boards had failed, or my soldering on my wiring had failed, or my LED strips had died. I bought this controller to help me rule out whether or not it was the LED strips that were failing.I was not really thrilled to have to download an app... but I am glad I did. The remote control without the app does work but.. for my particular lights the red and green were swapped and I could not see a way to swap them via the remote. The app does let you change the rgb color calibration, which was the main reason I did install the app.Well I am so glad I did install the app. You can control some of the same features from the app with the remote but it makes so much more sense in the app and is easier to control in the app. My own programs were pretty complex routines that I was rather proud of. The number of combinations of programs in the app however was really impressive. Not quite the same fine control I have writing my own programs on Arduino but so much variety that I was happy to ignore my boards for the summer and just enjoy the variety of shows pre-provided! You can also adjust the effects based on the number of pixels you have. I currently have three strands of 50 each linked up. The programs can go up to 150 pixels. But it can be really fun trying using repeats so setting to 75, 50, 25 pixels, or 10 on a string of 150 gives some really different feelings. The app is a little confusing at first, play around and experiment and it starts to make a lot more sense.All in all, I am very glad I bought this controller. It exceeded my expectations and was very affordable.I did once have trouble and had to reset the connection between the app and the controller. Doing so did fix the issue and I have had the controller now for a couple months and use it almost daily.

The problem encountered in the initial review was apparently caused by the download of the app....the QR code somehow directed to a totally different app that was not created to work with this controller. A Google search revealed the correct app which seems to work to this point.

If you're having trouble with the Bluetooth your power supply is probably inadequate, mine worked at first, then suddenly stopped working. I worked out that because I had shifted the LED's to a white pattern they were now drawing too much power for my power supply. Once I switched to a more powerful power supply everything was fine.(Bluetooth connection problems)

So far all of the issues I've had with this are due to the app. However, since that is required to work the leds attached to the controller, I feel it is warranted.It's not immediately obvious that the controller does NOT pair with your phone, but rather within the app only. The first 20 or so times that I opened the app, there was no Bluetooth scan at the top. It was simply blank, even though I knew bt was active because I kept checking and trying to pair the controller manually. I even mailed the mfr about the pairing issue (no replies, 3 days later btw), and then the app finally decided to realize the phone had Bluetooth. Paired and worked great.App patterns are rudimentary. Having to re-pair after closing the app is annoying. The app is the problem with this, it could have been great, but then again, for the price I can't complain too loudly.

Bought this to control my ws2812b RGB strip and it worked ok for about a day and a half then died.I was powering it with a 5v connection and it just stopped connecting one day. No power through to the strip and no Bluetooth options show up anymore.Would not recommend this.

The media could not be loaded. I bought two Alitove 16 ft strips, a power supply, and this controller, and then put the LED strips into a 1929 baby grand piano. The BanlanX phone app can run the two "sides" independently, with music sync or without. Since it all plugs in with no tools and just works together, I think it's a good, reasonably inexpensive introduction to LED technology. In the video, I had yet to add the second strip. Oh, I had no trouble getting the adhesive to adhere to the wood or metal. The song is "He Included Me."

SO my regular controller stopped working my RGBs on my house so was needing something to have at least some type of lights. I purchased this not really knowing if it would do good or not. I was kind of shocked at how plug n play it really is.. I hooked a 12v power supply from some other lights into the unit. hooked my lights to it and plugged it in. Downloaded and opened the app and the lights came on... I wish You could do more with the app but it does give you like 120 different colors and patterns of lights. looks like it can control up t0 600 lights, i only have about 330 as of now. plan to hook more up and see how it does. I had them on all day one day the box never got hot. best part with this i don't need any other power source for the lights. Might try out another box that has more features.BTW this box has no way to fasten itself, you could use double sticky tape on it or something. reason for 1 star on the adhesion
