QUICK POINTS:1 - This is NOT a verse-by-verse commentary2 - This is probably meant for more personal-devotional supplement, not sermon prepI am a pastor and have been utilizing already 2 commentaries as I preach my way through Mark. I was coming up on some controversial chapters with many interpretations... I knew that some of my views align with that of RC Sproul's teachings, thus I ordered this looking forward to utilizing his help on the material.I was fooled in one way: IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A VERSE-by-VERSE COMMENTARY, THIS IS NOT IT. Though he teaches verse-by-verse ,St. Andrews Expositional Commentary is nothing more than just his sermons in manuscript form (Hence "expositional," not "exegetical"). Thus they are organized as such. This means if you're looking for what most commentaries look like (i.e. VERSE NUMBER in bold, followed by a dissection, exposition and elaboration on each verse, organized into sections), you will not find it here.Again, this is apparently Sproul's sermons that he has preached as he went through any book of the Bible behind the pulpit, put into manuscript format.SO if you are looking for scholarly, commentary for studying purposes as you preach, this is perhaps not the best option. Sproul does have a "recommended reading" page for ACTUAL commentaries (one of which I already owned and have been using for my own preaching). If you are looking for something in you personal devotional time, this is perhaps BETTER utilized there.Sproul makes it clear in the series preface:"Please be aware that this book is part of a broader series of books containing adaptations of my St. Andrew's sermons. The title of his series is St. Andrews Expositional Commentary. As you can see, this is more than a convenient title - it is a description. This book, like all the others in the series, will not give you the fullest possible insight into each and every verse in this biblical book. Though I sought to at least touch on each verse, I focused on the key themes and ideas that comprised the "big picture" of each passage I covered. Therefore, I urge you to use this book as an overview and introduction, but if you desire to enhance your knowledge of this book of Scripture, you should turn to one or more of the many excellent exegetical commentaries (see my recommendations in the back.)."

I used this as a devotional book to walk through the book of Mark and found it to be a great resource for deeper understanding with some life application. It is written in a very accessible way as though each chapter is a sermon with some mix of illustrations, observation, interpretation, and application. I highly recommend this for study or deep devotional reading.

This is the perfect commentary for a beginner wanting foundational truths to build upon.

This is by no means a technical commentary (not that I would even be a good judge of that). But I have found it to be excellent devotional reading. If you are looking for a book that will help you better understand the gospel of Mark and grow in your understsanding of Christ, then this is for you!

This book is the result of RC Sproul preaching his way line by line through a gospel book at his church. This approach to preaching stops pastors riding their hobby horse repeatedly and provides people will a clear understanding of an entire book instead of one verse. The book is easy to read, enjoyable and challenging with good explanations, background and personal application from the text.

clear and easily understood but has exceptional depth and wisdom. Recommended for anyone wishing to better understand the Book of Mark.

I loved this book. It is my second of the series, after Romans. I learned more about my Bible and of my Lord Jesus Christ thanks to some deep comments of Dr. Sproul. Thank you Lord for your servant’s great legacy!

Wonderful book. Found it helped provide clear explanations to Biblical questions that I have had for a long time.
