I think they work. We tested them in a couple of places and found a positive test at my parents house the same day we found out WoT was cancelled. Two bad pieces of news on the same day. We were able to narrow it down to a new faucet so it was an easy fix. It was easy to read the test and result came back fast. Unfortunately we didn't get wheel of time back. That was a huge bummer for my whole family.

Don't waste your money on these. EVERYTHING tests positive for lead. I tested a nail, my platinum wedding ring, a gold watch, a dime, a quarter, a penny, front door knob... Every single one tests positive for lead. Bought another kit, and that one actually works. This is a fraudulent product, so be forewarned!Edit: Since this tested positive on my home and the other test kit did not, I didn't know which one to trust. I now have had a professional company come out to quote abatement and cleanup, and they confirmed there is no lead in my paint, even though these test swabs tested positive for lead. Save yourself the stress and don't waste your time and money on this fake product.

Okay so I bought these because I have a big painted wooden box in my room from around '72, it was my mom's growing up, and the paint was chipping weird and I was like wait...this might be lead paint. So I checked with one if these, and we'll, no color change. Double checked with another. Nada. So, I checked a little pocket thing pictured above that I found as a kid, and even then I had realized it probably had lead. Well, like 10 years later, it's been confirmed! I checked other random things, sometimes using the same swab just to see if they all truly worked, and they do! Some screws on my shelves have a little lead, and a Hobby Lobby sign that I have has a LOT of lead! So...start checking your hobby lobby items I guess, lol, but for real, check all your stuff at this point. Lead is mostly dangerous as a degradable paint ingredient, but still good to know. Also, flip your swab over and you can use it again! Only do this while it is still wet from your initial water-activation dip. You can get a lot more for your money this way. Toodleloo! Great to test for lead. I’ve used this at home and also while out shopping. I don’t want to expose my family, and so this is an easy way to test.

Bought this lead test kit to check a few old items around the house. The instructions were pretty simple and using the swabs was easy. Just dip in water and rub on the surface, results show up fast, which is great. The pack comes with plenty of swabs so you can test multiple things without worrying about running out too soon. The only downside is that the color change can be a little tricky to interpret. Sometimes it’s clear but other times it’s kinda faint making you second-guess the results. Also, wish the swabs were a bit more sensitive, tested a couple items I was pretty sure had lead, but they didn’t react much. Overall, it’s a decent kit for quick home testing. If you need something super precise you might want a lab test but for basic checking this does the job.
