I think Rucksack style cool bags are a great idea You can pack lots of things to be kept cool with additional pockets for other items, then put it on your back to leave your hands free. This particular one has a 30l capacity which should be large enough to carry a small picnic for a family. The cool bag part is lined with a silver plastic material which is waterproof so it should contain any accidental spills. I haven't had an opportunity to use it yet (too wet and cold outside) but it kept a couple of freezer blocks solid for at least 8 hours. It has many other features too. On the top is a pocket that is an ideal size for carrying maps, etc., which can be expanded to a depth of 3 inches to take bulkier items. There is also a large front pocket, and a side mesh pocket suitable for water bottles. The front also has a pair of straps that could be used for carrying rolled up towels, blankets, coats, etc. There are also a number of loops on the front and one of the sides, but I haven't yet worked out what these might be used for.The carrying straps are about 7 cms wide, adjustable in length and are lightly padded.When not in use, it can be folded into a package approximately 20 x32x12 cms, and come with an additional velcro strap to keep it folded.I have still to test it out properly, but I hoping it will be as good as my first impressions suggest.

I used this on a recent camping trip, the main storage are has a wipe insulated finish, which is plenty big enough for either general food items, milk, cans or even larger 2ltr soda bottles a couple of freezer packs insured things kept cool enough for a weekend camping. On the top of the main compartment there is another smaller storage area + a separate zipped compartment, useful for condiments and other cooking utensils. The front pouch provides and excellent additional storage pouch. A drinks holder is on the side. Mollie style webbing and Velcro is placed around the bag should you wish to add additional fitment. Overall a very handy bag.
