These are great sturdy trays for starting seeds in a floating tray setup. Having used many different methods, I will never use anything else, as you don't have to worry about watering. You can use anything that holds water and can accommodate the size of the tray, but I create a wooden frame, line it with plastic, fill with water, and float these trays on the water. The cells have a hole in the bottom, which keeps the starter mix constantly watered, and are pyramid shaped which makes for easy extraction of the plant.That said, be careful on ordering. These trays are also known as "speedling" trays, after the company that designed them. They come in multiple sizes. They are all the same outside dimensions, but the cells--"plugs"--are different sizes. This one is the extremely small size, 1x1 inch at the top, narrowing to a quarter of an inch at the bottom. They work great, for very small flower seeds, but aren't good for larger vegetables, unless you don't mind transplanting them to a bigger pot, prior to putting them in the garden. They also make a 128 cell, 72 cell, and 32 cell version. Unfortunately, as of the date of this review, Amazon only sells the 242 and 128 cell version. The 72 and 32 cell version can be found elsewhere on the net, just search "floating seed tray" or "speedling tray." I prefer the 72 cell for vegetables as you can go from seedling to transplant size and right into the garden. These trays are very durable and I expect them to last for many years with normal use.

First year using these and we’re very impressed with these floating trays. Seeds are sprouting so quickly and watering is a breeze.

Great product for growing plants from seed. I built a simple frame with 2" x 4"s and lined it with a plastic trash bag. Then added water with a liquid fertilizer in the plastic lined box and then placed the hydroponic seed tray with my planted seeds in the box so it floats. Works great!

Arrived as advertised. Just too small for big seeds. I have used the bigger size before.

This comes with zero plugs and no base to hold the styrofoam. It is useless unless you are looking for a replacement for your styrofoam mold. I have been trying for a couple weeks to get a refund and that is absolutely not happening either. They let me know that "plugs" are openings in the styrofoam...If I sent them to a store to get a plug for the kitchen sink. . .using their logic they would come back with a kitchen sink because the hole itself is the plug.Anyway, no plugs. no base. no customer service. Do as you will.
