Fantastic Mountaineering Boots
I’ve had these boots for a couple of years and have only worn them twice. The first trip was a general hiking trip and they had fantastic traction but were ultimately too heavy for the hiking pace we were keeping. I bought lightweight hiking shoes the next day. BUT I still absolutely recommend these boots if you are hiking on extremely rocky/rugged/unstable terrain because they provide incredible stability, traction, and support. I just wore them on a winter hiking trip and they were perfect in the snow! I wore them alone in the snow as well as with snowshoes and I realized these are perfect as winter hiking boots. I call them my mountaineering boots because I believe they are suitable for any mountaineering elements. If you are looking for generic trail hiking boots or shoes, these may not be for you.

Amazing
I am not really a hiker but my best friend and I just went to Argentina and decided to go to Patagonia to hike a glacier. It sounded so magical that we couldn't pass it up but, truth be told, I was nervous because I had to buy everything I needed for the hike which cut into my travel budget. After looking around at several sporting websites and seeing that all the hiking boots were well over $100 I decided to look on Amazon and because of the reviews decided to try these boots.I am between a 5 1/2 and the six so I started with a 6 1/2 which were definitely too small. I exhanged them for a size 7 and the first time I put them on I thought I was having a past life memory of the mafia fitting me with cement shoes. Omg, they felt so hard and heavy!I was thinking I would need to return them and go ahead and splurge on and expensive pair but decided to wait until I went to the REI garage sale that my friend told me about (if you are not familiar with that it might be worth looking up).The day of the garage sale I brought my boots to the store because I heard they had a rock wall you could climb on to see how your shoes fit. It's more of a hump than a wall but it was very helpful and a couple people at the store commented on what great boots I had.For some reason, they felt more comfortable so I decided just to keep them. I got a pair of silk socks to wear underneath my hiking socks because my friend said that was supposed to help prevent blisters.I did not wear them for more than a few minutes prior to going on my hikes in Argentina, one was on a glacier where I had to wear crampons and the other was a rocky trail. These boots were amazing! I wore them for the entire day, both hiking and afterwards when we went into town to get a bite to eat. Not only did I not get blisters but I felt very safe and secure on both hikes. Obviously, the glacier was damp and there were times when we walked through puddles. My feet were not submerged underwater per se but they definitely got wet. Well, I should say my shoes got wet and my feet stayed dry ;).The other hike had some precarious rocks and dirt and I felt like I had a secure grip on the ground as well as having my ankles protected from anything that made me a little wobbly. As far as hiking boots go (I'm more of a Louboutin girl) I would consider these to be attractive.I am amazed they are so inexpensive and would absolutely recommend them to anyone. The souls were still a little hard so it might be worth taking them to a shoemaker to have some sort of cushion/gel insole put in but, despite that, I still found them to be very comfortable.A great investment that saved enough space in my budget for a fantastic dinner ;)

Fantastic boots, but do not ignore the warnings to get half size up!
Fantastic boots, but do not ignore the warnings to get half a size up!I initially ordered 6.5 (my regular size) thinking, "I have small feet, I don't need to worry about getting larger." There is a lot of cushion in the boots so they were really, really tight across the top.I returned the 6.5's and got 7's (super easy process) and they are AMAZING! I've hiked 2 trails since purchasing them. The ankle support is very sturdy but the boots are flexible enough (once broken in a little - they are a bit stiff right out the box) to allow for jogging/running. There were several times were I side stepped a rock and had I been in my previous shoes, would have rolled/sprained my ankle - but not in these boots. Every time I was able to catch myself without hurting my ankles. The grip is great for most rock surfaces and my feet were dry and warm on the last hike I did which was cold and raining a bit.The price is absolutely worth it for these boots!

Inspect your boot as soon as you get it!
UPDATED REVIEW!!!!!My below review was from a few hours of wear but now I have been hiking in these boots on three different trails, rock climbed and been out to waterfalls and let me just say something about these boots... AMAZING!As long as you dont let water come to the top of your boot, meaning above where they're tied off at your ankle... you can completely put this shoe underwater with nothing to leak inside and get your feet wet.Yesterday I stood in a creek ankle high and was in there for a good bit of time with no leaking inside my boot.As far as comfort.. I have never found a boot this comfy. I hiked almost four hours and even wore them to drive home an hour and to grocery shop in.This boot is truly amazing... The boot functionality itself gets a 5 STAR from me. The only reason I gave it a 4 star was realted to my previous review below. Before I give the negative I want to give the positive.I hike ALOT. These boots were definitely created for those who hike hikes for the not faint of heart. The grip on the sides as well as top and bottom are incredible! Even better than what appears to the eye in the pics given for purchase.I was very hesitant in buying these because the price was so low and any regular hiker knows you’re going to spend well over $100.00 on a good hiking boot.I have to say that these are the most comfortable hiking boot I’ve ever put on my foot.Size is true to my normal foot size of an 8. My twin sister ordered a half size up as they recommend you order a full size up and even the half size was too big.Even in wearing good, solid hiking socks they’re not too snug. The fit is just right. The ankle support is top notch and does not rub my ankles raw like past hiking shoes. This shoe is truly a great product.I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Now, the negative. When I received these I took them straight out of the box and placed them on my feet only to find I could barely tie the left boot due to the boot string being frayed almost completely in half. These were purchased as brand new, not used so not sure why it looks like a rat chewed through the string.I contacted amazon and they stated I would have to call the manufacture for the replacement. All in the end, they sent me a new pair of boots and I have to take the current pair back to UPS.Not a fun process but I would say that it’s still worth having a good boot!Side note: My boot is an ankle boot and feels perfect for what I wanted. My twin sister got the taller boot that was also labeled an ankle boot but true to form is a mid calf hiking boot. Both are a great fit and were comfortable just walking around in for a few hours. Will update after our long hike in a few days!
