Trust in the brand
Sometimes one has to put a bit of faith into the purchase of a product, and to a degree that was the case here for me. I was recommended (not by the seller I should point out) to put some Wood Preserver on some T & G that is to be over painted with the appropriate primer, undercoat and an eventual top coat of Non-drip Gloss.A brand hadn’t been mentioned and here is where I put my faith in a company whose products I’ve used plenty over the years – Ronseal. The truth is I won’t know if I need (or at some stage in the future perhaps – needed) to put this Preserver on, because if the T & G is still good in years to come I will never know how much that is down the the Wood Preserver specifically. As far as using the product goes, it is easy enough to use. It pours a bit messy at first from the 5 litre can (I poured it into a metal paint kettle a bit at a time) but pours easier after the level in the can has dropped. It is very thin and so is easily spilt if you move it about to quickly with the kettle, but it goes on really easy and absorbs really quick. I waited 24 hours and put a second coat on as it recommended but I’m sure the second coat could have gone on in less than the 24 hours recommendation (?). There’s plenty of fumes from it (not unlike a sort of petrol smell) so if using indoors I would ventilate well. I was using it outdoors and any spills didn’t leave any mess as they were pretty much evaporated and gone from the block paving that it spiled on. Cleaning the brush was easy enough in white spirit. So a bit a faith needed perhaps as to whether it is needed or not, but I’d say if in any doubt put some on and better safe than sorry! The wood had a very reasuring smell about it once the stuff had gone on though.

Good product at sensible price
This does a good job of penetrating wood because it is oil based. The colour darkens a little but not a lot (at least with the clear version). It helps the wood to repel water. I have not used it for long enough to know if it is truly weatherproof or how long it will last. It recommends refinishing after a few years but this is because of the relatively low toxicity insecticide (pyrethroid based) which does not last for ever.

Seems a good quality wood preserver.Easy to use quickly..
I have assisted a daughter in law in maintaining her large Garden Room so that it lasts several years. And this product ,as long as it does what it says on the tin , meets our needs. I am almost 8o and have found this easy and quick to use .So I am confident for the future.

Great product
Use this every year to treat and protect my fencing/roofing over my pool. When first applied it makes the wood seem a little darker but over the weeks it settles and looks like nothing was ever applied, but your wood doesn’t weather it still looks as fresh as the day I put it up. Definitely recommend

Easy to apply
Very easy to apply, and a little goes a long way, as it is of a very watery consistency. My only criticism is that the "clear" version does not protect against water, whereas the other coloured versions do. I did not realise this at the time of purchase, but it doesn't matter to me as I am painting afterwards. I find it strange that they say you should leave 24 hours between coats. Admittedly I was using on a warm summers day, but it dries very quickly, a matter of minutes. As for its effectiveness, only time will tell.
