Enjoyable and informative
This thought provoking book contains both memoir and practical advice for achieving great results in ceramic handholding techniques. I enjoyed reading her history of developing skill with and knowledge about clay.

Good book even for someone who's been working in clay.
Even though I've worked with clay for years, this book still has something to offer. Well written and lots of good photographs.

I have found some very helpful tips for slab building I haven't used before but am eager to try.
I am an experienced potter and hand builder by choice. I really like the environmental friendliness of hand-building (no waste, and no water needed), and the variety of building styles that can be incorporated. I also enjoyed some of the projects that I found in the book, which gave me a whole new perspective on how to hand build new projects that I'm eager to try for the first time. There were also many other helpful tips on exercises to help maintain muscle stability and avoid repetitive use injury, as well as studio tips and much more. A really comprehensive book that encompassed much more than just building projects!

Great book with a lot of projects
I've always like the work of Sunshine Cobb and this book did not disappoint. It has projects in it that are easy to follow and lots of other good suggestions, like keeping dust down in the studio and how to make magic water. Good for beginners as well as people who have been doing pottery for awhile.

Great book for your Pottery Library!
I highly recommend this book for the novice or intermediate level artist wishing to explore hand built work. It is a pleasant read with lots of great tips and advice. I learned some great tips for handling some of the challenges of working in clay. The interviews with different artist was interesting and inspiring. Lots of great resources for galleries, publications and merchants in the index. Sunshine Cobb welcomes you in to her clay world in this great book. You almost feel like you are sharing her studio with her.

I first found it online as an ebook through my university but decided I really wanted a hard copy of it. Very simple, clearly written introduction. Including care of the potter, care of brain space as well as the studio space. You might want to check the library first but in the end you will likely want to own. Clearly written, well illustrated. Would love it if the patterns were full size but that is a bit much to ask these days and we can all likely access the ability to size them up. Enjoy.
