How do I measure my thumb to find the correct size to order?

My finger joint measurement is on the cusp - 2 3/8"...should order up (7,8,9) or down (5,6,7)?

I would probably go with the 7,8,9. There are 3 separate splints in the package: (2 3/8, 2 4/8 and 2 5/8). I personally would rather deal with slightly bigger than smaller. I think the smallest should fit.

Will I be able to use it for productive activities such as holding a mouse when using a computer?

Yes you will be able to hold a mouse, although the grip may be a little odd as the finger the brace is on will be straight. Something to keep in mind. A lot of our customers have reviewed that they use it on the computer just fine.
