An excellent resource for young students - on a very important subject.
The 'Explore' series of books are an excellent idea. They cover a wide range of subjects at a level that is ideal for primary age children. And they are a refreshing change from internet info because you can touch and hold them. There is a good depth of information accompanied by loads of pictures and the graphic design is very bright and engaging - just the sort of thing that grabs the attention. This particular book is about Fair Trade products - a subject that is very relevant and important. This lovely book covers a wide range of fairtrade items - not just foodstuffs, which is excellent because it is mostly food that we are generally aware of, as see Fair Trade labels in the supermarket every day. It is a great introduction for children do gain an understanding of where some of their food and other items come from and how they ar produced - and by whom. And there is a good coverage of the history and reasoning behind the need for it, which is great for creating awareness at a young age of the need to be part of a fair society.

Each of its series of two-page chapters highlights a different aspect of the fair trade movement and its effect on developing countries, illustrated with artwork and photographs, along with several colourful text-boxes discussing different aspects of the subject. Fair Trade (Explore!)
This is a typical, non-fiction book for KS2 (approx 7-11 in age). This is a title in the “Explore!” series, which includes titles such as ‘Chocolate,’ ‘Fairgrounds,’ ‘London,’ ‘Rainforests,’ ‘Circuses’ and this one, ‘Fair Trade.’With lots of coloured photographs and a busy, bright interior, this is perfect for children – attractive, easy to negotiate and it explains a quite complicated issue very simply. The book covers: Fair Trade for all, global market, the history of fair trade, bananas, water, chocolate, cotton, improving lives, footballs, debating fair trade, raising awareness, a recipe for a fair-trade ice cream sundae using Fair Trade ingredients; plus the usual glossary and index, plus ideas for further reading and useful websites. Most children will have noticed items in shops labelled Fair Trade, so this will answer their questions about why we should buy them and the good they do. This is very useful for school projects and perfect for the classroom.

Attractive and informative book
This is an excellent informative book about Fair Trade suitable for KS2 children. Each double page spread focusses on a different aspect of fair trade and is clearly laid out on colourful pages with attractive illustrations and photographs. I would recommend this for children with an interest in fair trade or for teachers to help with their topic work.
