“Dare to Love Forever” offers us a very different take on vampires
“Dare to Love Forever” offers us a very different take on vampires. Aside from needing blood – and being forbidden to take human blood except in designated “bite clubs”- vampires are pretty much like everyone else. But because they’re different, they suffer from discrimination and second class citizenship.Sound familiar? But Jake Wallace takes off from this premise and presents us with two unusual kinds of vampires, both of them very rare, and both of them about to become very involved in each other’s destinies. Carson Locke is a 21-year-old tabula rasa vampire. Drinking from a human will wipe their mind, eliminating all personality and sense of self. For this reason, Carson has been kept isolated from the world all of his life.Commander Lincoln Samuels of New Vampire Justice is a sanatore vampire, which is also rare, but not deadly. His blood heals. When Carson’s family is murdered and Carson finds himself on the verge of starvation, the New Vampire Justice force gets involved. Samuels realizes that his attraction to Carson goes beyond Carson’s youth and looks, but also knows that when two such rare vampires connect, things could get messy. And indeed they do.My biggest personal amusement with this book comes from the fact that Wallace has chosen to set all the action in central upstate New York – where I grew up. I mean, who sets an elite Vampire police force in Utica? Who ever mentions Cazenovia (where my family lived for decades) in any book? I have to admire Wallace for casting a spotlight on the places of my childhood and youth. Not all the action in the world takes place in NY and LA.On the other hand, my major gripe about this genuinely exciting, page-turning story, is the ham-fisted bodice-ripping treatment of much of the relationship between Lincoln and Carson. Too much repetition of very purple prose and (sorry, it’s just me) too much sex. I got the connection between the men; I totally embrace the erotic intensity of pair-bonding between vampires. But a little restraint would have made the book less like the overwrought angst I remember from middle school (in Syracuse).Jake Wallace clearly had fun writing this book, and no doubt will have fun with the second volume. So we can all have just as much fun reading them.

Great book!
I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, because these were not the normal vampires I usually read about. No super strength and speed, no ability for quick healing, and feeding on synthetic blood. They're also susceptible to injuries and diseases just like humans. Basically, they're humans who drink blood. But... as I started reading, my thoughts changed as I got into the characters and learned who they are, their thoughts, feelings, etc.Poor Carson is reeling after losing his family and almost dying as he starves for blood, and then almost dies at the hands of a trigger happy NVJ agent when Carson breaks into a blood bank in a desperate attempt for blood. Lincoln, another NVJ agent, steps in, and instantly feels a connection to Carson and the need to protect him. When Lincoln finds out what kind of vampire Carson is, he knows that Carson definitely needs protecting from those who will use the boy for their own gains. What ensues is an intense bonding, loads of betrayal, and ultimately a happy ending. This was a really great story, well written, and made me invested in each character. I'm seconds away from buying the second book so I can continue the story.

Vampires, special powers, a twisty plot, oh myyy!
4.0 stars. I enjoyed this book and bought the next one in the series. I felt there were some slow moments and I would have liked the chemistry between the characters to have been turned up a notch, but on the whole, I enjoyed the story. I did start to feel like one of the MCs was given too many special powers because it turned down the anticipation for me -- I love it when it seems hopeless but the MC has to either a) out scheme the bad guy, or b) discovers a well of hidden strength he didn't know he had. In this case, the MC kept being given more and more and more powers that normal vampires didn't have, so it short circuited that process. But again, on the whole, I liked the MCs, the secondary characters, and the balance of romance vs action plot.

Erotic, quick paced fun
This was action packed and moved quickly. Great tension. Good suspense. Definitely erotic. I could tell from Lincoln and Caden that there’d be a big smexy story here.

Great beginning of the series
I found this book by pure chance and I'm glad I did. This is a complete new take to the vampire story and I truly liked it. Carlson it's a vampire with if you knew abilities and he found himself in The middle of a conspiracy. Lincoln it's the commander of the NVJ and found himself a strangely attracted to Carlson. Both main characters and the supporting ones are well developed an incredibly likable. OK, maybe not all of them. LOL! Either way you should give them a try. Grab a copy and enjoy it. Happy reading! PS. Can't wait for the next one!

Starving, afraid and murder
It tells of a young man who came home and found his mother dead, the rest of his family missing. Fearing for his life he ran, only to find himself living on the streets and on the verge of dying from starvation. He went through a lot to find out the truth regarding his family. This a good book and I recommend that you read it. I can't wait to read Justin and Max story,.

Missed Opportunity
This story had a great deal of potential to start but fizzled out about 2/3 of the way through. The 2 main characters relationship was rushed and it appeared the author wasn't quite sure where to take the plot. One of the main characters went from a tough guy to sappy once he hooked up. The concept is quite interesting but it seems the writing got ahead of itself?

Really good
Vamps are people too. They just have the added need for blood in their diet. Some vamps are special, with abilities outside the norm. Carson and Link are two of special vampires. Throw in a powerful vampire Shaman, corrupt cops, murder and missing friends and family. An excellent story and a very good read.

Exciting
What an exciting book. The storyline is quick and filled with page turning suspence. I could not put this book down the fight between good and evil was very exciting. I loved the romance between Lincoln and Cason. Some gut wrenching moments and well worth a read if you love suspense and paranormal romance.

Going to be a good series
This was one of those books you know are going to hold you fast. Lincoln is a big muscle bound alpha who's brought to his knees by Carson, a timid being scared of the powers he's capable of unleashing, but oh when he does, boy does he go all out. Straight off to read book 2

Wow!
Such a great read! Excellent story. Compelling, diverse, and complex characters who gel very well into dynamic relationships - both romantically, and as a team that would make Gene Rodenbury proud. Mad skills; this was a page turner!
