Slightly expensive but worth it.
absolutely brilliant if you work alot with serial data.. Bit of a pain as windows sets them up with weird numbers but a bit of tape sorts that out. Nice robust and the tx rx led's are a great additon

Solid performer, well build, just what we needed
This does exactly what it's supposed to. After installing the drivers i had 8 new com ports all working in parallel. You do have to work out which com device maps to which physical port but that's straightforward and a windows 'feature' rather than a failing of the device itself. I'm using it powered only by the USB connection and have had no issues, recommended.

Plug and play
Just plugged it into my rPi and got 8 ttyUSB ports. Perfect.

Quality item - worked perfectly.
Installed to monitor our Sonicwall Firewalls via the console port as they the most unreliable pieces of kit on the planet. Unlike this serial adaptor that has worked perfectly!

StarTech 4 port USB to Serial adaptor
Easy to set up and connects my W7 laptop to a serial device. No need to use the software disc as Windows recognised the new hardware. I was able to connect my device via this adaptor to my laptop first time....note that in Device Manager you need to do a bit of trial and error to work out which port the new device is connected to when you undertake the software handshaking ...otherwise it reports a 'device not present' error. The only thing that I have noticed is that Windows Update is now trying to find new drivers for this widget - but reports an error when it fins that there aren't any. It's a bit of a shame that the adaptor doesn't ship with the mains/5V DC power adaptor as I need to now find the right one that is compatible. Whilst I may not need to use the power supply by doing so I will reduce the power loading from my laptop so I think StarTech should ship the unit with a power supply as a matter of course in future. As they are only about £10 it won't add too much to the base cost of the 4-port adpator

Used to connect to equipment no problem.
Had many of these rs232 units, nothing else come close to this Product, used at work and home Great product works all the time.

Funktioniert einwandfrei. Portkennzeichnung stimmt mit -belegung überein. Der horizontale Abstand zwischen den RS-232 Schnittstellen könnte 1-2 mm größer sein, damit auch Kabel mit guter Schirmung nebeneinander Platz haben

We have been using it to mass install the firmware in our circuit boards. It happened that one of our cable broke and shorted the RTS,CTS and some data outputs to GND for quite a few hours and it did not cause any damage to this RS232 adapter. This thing is bulletproof.

Tried many cheap USB to RS-232 converters, what a waste of money and time trying to get them to work properly; nothing but communication errors and frustration. This one works flawlessly in Windows 7, 8.1 and 10; drivers installed automatically (no disk needed) and COM ports are persistent (never change) between multiple devices; it looks like the driver always remembers a serial number (or somehow is able to identify a specific unit) of the device and assigns it the same COM port every time this specific device is plugged in. Used 3 of those converters on the same computer without any problems whatsoever. Has an external 5V input port (I think it is a standard 2.5mm plug) but I did not need to use it; it works flawlessly getting it's power only from the USB port. The case is solid steel and comes with a DIN rail adapter as well as it can be surface mounted with screws. Love the send and receive indicator lights (for each port) since I can visually identify what is happening with either serial port. Also has a power LED. I cannot say anything about it's high speed serial performance since my application calls for only 38.4kbs and it has been running without a single error for months now. At this speed, basically saturating both ports with data traffic, it is just slightly above the ambient temperature (cannot really call it warm). As for reliability goes, I have been using approx. 15 of those converters for several months (purchased from different sources including Amazon), not a single DOA or failure. A true industrial quality USB to serial port converter that is very reasonably priced.
