This is AMAZING!
I JUST discovered these little gadgets! They are such a wonderful idea! When you have a number of holes to drill in the center of a metal hole (like hinges, caster wheel base etc...), these will drill you a hole (or at least. a pilot hole) 100% in the center every time with mindless ease!I remember futsing around trying to mark the center of the hole with a pencil and NEVER getting it right and getting frustrated! With this, you just put the right size in the drill and buzz! you're done!!! PErfect every time!

Great quality, USA made still
These are well made and work great...springs are even ground (which is proper and which you rarely see these days). Surprisingly still made in the US. Very minimal edge/burr cleanup to do and the drill bits are good quality. They'll break in with use but if you want to disassemble and buff the parts with fine scotchbrite, put a small drop of silicone oil in there, they'll be smoother right away. Spring tension is right where it should be.I've used these for several dozen holes and been very pleased with them. I started to do a lot of tiny #4 screws so I picked up the Snappy version for that one...it works fine but it's much stiffer and requires the special extra long drill bit replacements where these Bosch don't - they just use standard jobber length bits so they're simple to replace anywhere you can find them. I think these are better than the Snappy, maybe not quite as nice as the o.g. Vix but close.Looking at photos of broken bits and such I wonder if maybe some guys didn't adjust the bit depth correctly before use. The very tip of the drill bit should be resting inside the end of the nose cone but set in just a tiny amount, like 1/32". That way the cutting edge of the bit is inside the hole so there isn't any binding/jamming when the nose is depressed, but it's also back from the tip just enough to let you set firmly in the hinge hole before the bit contacts the surface. Not sure how that guy's spring got twisted up...really not sure how that could happen in use.

Bosch makes good bits!
Bosch always makes great bits and accessories. This works great and had next day shipping so I didn’t have to go to out of my way to get it from the store. My vix bits came black and not gray, how the picture shows, but wasn’t a problem..

Well made.
This set's blister package suggests an application to prepare holes for size 6, 7 and 8 fasteners.Drill bit sizes used in the set are 3/32, 7/64 and 1/8, smallest to largest. These sizes are blind stamped on each tool as well.Features a phosphate treatment to inhibit oxidation. Easily disassembled to replace the broken bits if needed. Drill bits are of the HSS variety and held in place by a set screw which can be removed with a 1/8 inch allen key. Drill bit lengths appear to be the commonly found jobber length bits that are found at your local tool center. Use these for a nicely centered pilot hole in preparation for hinge installation.I am grateful that this set claims to be made in the USA.There is an audible gritty sound that these make when used, although you won't likely hear this over the noise of your cordless driver.

Money well spent
I grew up in a cabinet shop, and I was helping my dad not long after I could walk. Here's the deal: I always started screws with a punch that you hit with a hammer. An old German carpenter that went through the guild system before the Second World War taught me to keep a bar of ivory soap in my tool belt. You punch a hole in the center of the butt, coat the screws in soap to lubricate the threads and prevent splitting face frames, and screw away... I used a Yankee screwdriver long before cordless drills became common. Years ago, I got a cheap self-centering drill bit, and chucked it into my (then) high-tech 14 volt cordless drill. The result was worse and slower than what I always did with a hammer. So, I went back to the punch, and I ignored the dirty looks that I got from other finish carpenters. I just figured their disdain for my trusty Stanley punch came from the same ignorance that made them ask me what I needed a coping saw for... Anyways, a couple of presidents have been in office since then, and I really like Bosch tools (I even buy Bosch brand kitchen appliances), so I decided to give it another try. I received these bits about a week ago, and I've used them on probably 2-300 hinges since then. I've gotta tell you, I'm a convert. They are as accurate as they are effortless to use. I have used them on everything from solid mahogany doors to hollow core doors to cabinet doors. They are sharp and they don't gum up with dust. Of course, you could just wing it, like all of the painters do when they put the doors back up. Your screws will all protrude at a funny angle past the face of the hinge, and the doors will all rub the stop in weird places... But, hell... Everyone else does them that way! Or, you could actually act like a real carpenter for once in your life and order these.

Excellent self-centering drill bit set
I bought these for a project needing many perfect pilot drill holes. I researched for a tool that would self-center the drill bit and I looked at many different brands and many different reviews. I used the #6 and the #8 size of this set on my project. I'm very impressed at how helpful and useful these self-centering drill bits are. I am 100% satisfied and I highly recommend this set. They look and feel and perform as high quality. My biggest concern was if there was drill bit depth adjustment on these tools. I can confirm that the drill bit depth is adjustable. Just loosen the set screw and it is easily to adjust the bit. Buy with confidence that you too will be impressed and 100% satisfied. Tried and tested and confirmed to be excellent in all respects.

How did I make it without these?
So far so good! I wanted to wait until I got a chance to use all three, before writing a review. So far, they seem to be very durable, of good value for the money, and decent quality. All three of mine seem to be pretty sharp! Easy to use, just like using a normal drillbit. If used as directed your pre-drill hole is on center every time.
