The Truth About Pitbull
Firstly, Amazon sent me a used platinum edition that didn't work properly. The factory seals were opened, one of the protective bags was missing and the shaver made a clicking sound. Bad Amazon! Obviously I had it replaced. The replacement was in good order. ***UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM***Does it give a close shave? No, and Yes.If you use the shaver as you would any other then it does not give a close shave. I had one days growth when I used it. Simply passing the shaver over your head doesn't really give a satisfactory result; it leaves stubble behind, about half a day's growth. In my experience you need to to do as per instructions; small circular motions over the head. Then you need to do the same again but apply significant pressure. This will leave the skin a bit sore, but may become more comfortable after a couple of weeks use (I've had mine two days and used it twice). You may find that you'll need to go through the cleaning process a few times as you shave. To get a good shave will take you about 20-30 mins. The end result was that stubble was left behind, though probably only a few hours worth; some places were actually left smooth. I retried going over the stubble with smaller circles and more pressure but unfortunately the only result was a sore head.CleaningDO NOT OPEN THE BLADES! The blades aren’t user serviceable, so don’t even think about taking them apart.A tap lights up on the top to let you know the shaver needs a clean. You can fill the included cleaning stand but unfortunately it doesn’t submerge the blades low enough. I rest mine diagonally on the side so that the holes on top of the blades are submerged adequately enough to clean properly. You can see the hair pour out of the holes as the blades are spinning under the warm water. Instructions say 5 seconds. Rubbish. 15 seconds at least and repeat five times remembering to wipe the top metallic part of the blades between washes. Don’t forget to give a deep clean every week with detergent and hot water for 30 mins.Is It Worth It?Well……………… I’m not decided. It does look good, top end. People have noted/complained that it feels cheap. It’s a shame people judge something by its weight. The heavier it is, the better quality it is, right? Wrong. Why on earth would anyone want a heavy shaver? Especially when you hold it over your head for any length of time. Do you have huge muscles? Didn’t think so. So, a lightweight shaver is ideal. Yes it does feel a bit fragile, but I’m not going to throw it against a wall to prove otherwise. The price tag is a bit steep I’ve now decided. For £130 you get the shaver, cleaning stand and travel case. Filling a sink to just over the blades would probably make the stand obsolete; though you would have to refill the sink a few times, as you do the stand. As far as I’m concerned it does look very nice. If it was £75 - £100 I would like it more. Obviously.ChargingOther shavers on the market take a considerable time to recharge. The Pitbull takes a little under an hour to fully charge from 0%. I’ve found after one heavy use, the shaver has 73% of battery life left. On the subject of charging, and the lack of a UK 3 pin plug. Buy an adapter! In the UK devices that can be, or usually used in the bathroom are covered by a law that insists on a two-pin plug fitting, (the same applies to all shavers and electric toothbrush chargers). This is because two-pin sockets only are allowed in bathrooms as they must use 110 volts, not 240 volts, due the water danger in bathrooms.Final ThoughtsI like to shave while watching TV and enjoying my morning coffee. Time isn’t really that much of an issue. If the charge runs out I can still use the Pitbull while it charges. Hopefully in the coming weeks my skin will be able to cope better with pressure I need to exert to get an acceptably closer shave. I really like its lightness and shiny aesthetics; it does look special. The blue LED lit symbols look cool. I like the addition of a travel lock so that the Pitbull will not switch on by accident, especially when travelling. I do like, not love it. The price really niggles me, but it was my choice to spend £130 instead of £60. If it wasn’t for the price and amount of cleaning needed Pitbull would get five stars.***UPDATE***After a week of using Pitbull, my skin has become accustomed to the blades faster than I thought. Yes, I’m pushing hard against my head to get a smooth result. The time has reduced to about sixteen minutes (which includes a face shave). No, I’m not getting a head like a bowling ball, but it’s as good as I will get without wet shaving. The ergonomics of the shaver play an important part; whether you hold the shaver from the top or wrap your fingers around the blades, it is comfortable. The battery life seems better. From a full charge, I’ve shaved three times; each time I’ve shaved (including face), I’ve also cleaned the Pitbull for five minutes each time with hot water and washing up liquid. The battery percentage is 65%.So…. Ive upgraded my review to 4 stars. The price is still too high. I use a bowl to clean the Pitbull, not the supplied wash stand. You have to give the Pitbull a chance, don’t just try it once, examine what you could be doing wrong and change your thinking. Judging this shaver too quickly, too hard, will stop you from accomplishing your shaving goal.

Well made and cuts really close.
Great bit of kit. Some thoughts on usage :Don’t cut hair that is longer than 2 or 3 mm in length. It simply clogs up the cutting blades. Keep hair short and cut at least one a week. I prefer a little bit of growth, so the minimum should be once a week, better row r even three times. Those that want an egg-she’ll finish, use daily! The cleaning instructions say run it under tap when running and you can submerge and agitate to clean. Just about works, but you’re going to need to clean this properly for optimum performance. Thing is if you pull of the blade housing and do a proper cleaning job, which is unavoidable to keep the shaver working best, then you apparently void your warranty. Also the springs tend to bounce out and you risk losing a vital component. This is a problem that needs addressing by Skull Shaver. Either make it customer serviceable and maintain the warranty or provide a better method of cleaning.Useful suggestions I hope. It’s a great bit of kit, easily the best I have used by far. Streets ahead of the rest.A few tweaks with cleaning and maybe battery function when less than 80% that affects cutting ability and you’ve got yourself a perfect product.Well done.

So far, so good!
I'd been thinking about buying a Skull Shaver for a couple of years, but was put off by the negative reviews. Finally I thought that I would purchase one and find out for myself.First off, does it shave as close as a wet shave? No.....but I have been shaving my head for years and have not found an electric razor that will shave as close as wet shaving. The closest I have found to a wet shave is a foil razor (my foil razor is a Braun 5 series and it gets pretty close), definitely no rotary shaver I have tried has given a really close shave. Having said that, hair has to be quite short for a foil razor to get through it, such as a '0' on hair clippers. The good thing about rotary shavers is the hair can be longer, and the Skull Shaver is a close shave for a rotary.Where the Skull Shaver excels is on a convenience level. If I want a mess free, quick shave then it is fantastic. I start shaving using a slight and steady circular motion, when it stops cutting as well I dip the head in water (the rinse stand does work well for this) and run the shaver for a short while.....this literally kicks all of the hair out of the shaver head, then I finish shaving and rinse the head again. The entire shave takes a few minutes at most. My foil shaver definitely gives a closer shave but it takes much longer and is much more trouble to keep removing the foil, tapping out the shavings, brushing the blades etc whilst shaving.I use around 10% of the battery on a shave with 5 days hair growth. The battery recharges very quickly. At the time of writing I've been using the Skull Shaver for 2 weeks. If this review isn't edited to say any different then you can assume it's still going strong and I'm happy with it.*UPDATE* -After four months of use the blade head finally stopped working. To be fair, the company does recommend changing the head every 4-6 months, so I am not complaining. The motor unit itself still works perfectly, so I will be ordering another head for it. I'm going to give the CR3 head a go as it offers the ability to open the head and rinse the blades off properly, which is not possible with the 5 blade head.
