Who Knew My Toothbrush Would Be Smarter Than Me? Adventures with the Oral-B iO Series 10!
When my trusty Sonicare toothbrush finally decided to retire after nearly twenty years of loyal service, I embarked on an epic quest to find a worthy successor. My Sonicare was so old it probably had memories of the Y2K scare, so it was about time. Enter the Oral-B iO Series 10, a toothbrush that’s so advanced I’m half expecting it to start giving me stock tips and weather forecasts. The Price Tag Dilemma:I’ll admit, the price tag gave me pause. For a moment, I wondered if I’d mistakenly wandered into the luxury goods section. I mean, I was searching for a toothbrush, not a second mortgage. But then I thought, "Hey, you only live once, and I’d rather invest in dental hygiene than in future dental bills."Unboxing the Future:Unboxing this toothbrush felt like opening a gadget from a sci-fi movie. It’s sleek, shiny, and has more lights than my Christmas tree. The magnetic charger is so cool, it could double as a prop in a superhero film. I half expected it to come with a button labeled "Launch" instead of "Power."Features That Make You Go ‘Wow’:The Oral-B iO Series 10 is packed with more features than my smartphone. It has an interactive color display that gives me feedback on my brushing technique—finally, an audience for my oral hygiene skills! It even offers multiple brushing modes, including Daily Clean and Gum Care, and I’m pretty sure there’s one that translates to "You’re doing amazing, sweetie!"The AI technology is like having a tiny dental coach cheering me on. It tracks my brushing pattern and offers helpful advice, probably more than I get from my therapist. It’s like having a buddy that’s really into your oral health.Brushing Experience:Using this toothbrush is like giving my teeth a VIP spa treatment. The micro-vibrations and oscillating technology make my mouth feel so clean, I’m pretty sure it could pass a military inspection. My teeth have never felt this pampered. The smart pressure sensor is a lifesaver, gently reminding me to ease up when I’m brushing like I’m trying to scrub away my middle school yearbook photo. The App Adventure:Of course, there’s an app—because why not? Syncing my toothbrush with my phone felt like introducing it to the Internet of Things. The app provides feedback and tracks my progress, acting like a personal trainer for my teeth, minus the motivational shouting. The 3D tracking is so precise, I’m convinced it’s secretly plotting my dental future.Battery Life and Cost Justification:The battery life is impressive, lasting up to two weeks on a single charge. This is perfect because I often forget to charge things until they’re as lifeless as my houseplants. As for the price, it’s steep, but think of it as an investment in oral health and a potential savings plan for avoiding future dental nightmares. Plus, it’s cheaper than therapy, and this toothbrush actually gives feedback!Final Verdict:In conclusion, the Oral-B iO Series 10 is more than just a toothbrush; it’s a technological marvel that makes brushing my teeth the highlight of my day. It’s a blend of futuristic features and everyday dental care that has transformed my oral hygiene routine into a daily adventure. If you’re ready to splurge on your dental future—and maybe show off a little at your next dentist appointment—this toothbrush is worth every penny. Just don’t be surprised if it starts offering you unsolicited advice on your life choices.

My advice is to splurge on this one
Update #3 - it has kept working fine for a month. Amazing that it can track which of the 16 zone is being brushed, not perfect but good enough. The app on the phone is useful enough to keep using every days, kind of tricky to finish the side and top zones, still gemlike and engaging. Back to 5 stars.Update #2 - Finally got the reset button to work right after about 20 attempts, and it works again for now. So I'm back to enthused about the unique capabilities of this toothbrush.Update #1 - Loved it for 5 days, as described below, but then the software quit working. Somehow the unit is no longer connected to the phone app. I've spent an hour so far searching YouTube videos and the instructions, making no progress. The reset button at the back is the worst input device I've encountered in a long time, and all the instructions are complicated and unclear. I'll modify this review if I ever get this $350 device back to working as it should.Cost is outrageous, but performance is great. A gyroscope allows the toothbrush to know which of 16 zones is being brushed (top or bottom, inside or outside, left right or middle, and the tops of the back zones) to track whether each zone gets its share of time. The graphic on the app on the phone (which I hold in the other hand) shows the progress. The ability to track history of brushing performance effectively gamifies the experience - I actually look forward to brushing at the moment. In six years, it will probably get 2000 uses, so 20 cents is not so frivolous, and tooth and gum work prevented has some value.

Comparing With The Series 9
I have been using the I/O Series 9 for almost two years without complaint. I am writing to help others decide whether upgrading is worth it for them. Aside from the Series 10 having a speckled finish, the Series 9 and 10 brushes are identical both in size, feel, weight, and function. Both use the same brush heads. The brushing experience is exactly the same, especially if you use the Braun app. Although there may be some internal differences to allow the Series 10 brush to communicate with the new base, there are zero changes from the user's perspective. The big change is the new base station. The Series 9 base was merely a charger. The Series 10 adds several features. The new base station is a little bit larger, heavier, and its magnet is stronger. It uses the same charging cable and adapter as the travel case (the same one used for the Series 9 travel case), so you do not get a second charging adapter for the base like you did with the Series 9. The new base station is also interactive, and you can use it instead of the Braun app to guide your brushing. However, it is not as fully featured as the app, and some of its functions are just gimmicks. As an example of the latter, the new base station can connect to your wi-fi network, which allows it to display things like current time. It can also display your elapsed brushing time. However, the display is small, and it's right on the countertop, which makes it hard to read. It is, however, a decent night light. The new base station has a ring of six lights on top going around its circumference. These change color from dark blue to white in three stages. Each of the six segments corresponds to a portion of your mouth, just like in the app. The idea is that you brush the outside of a molar until the corresponding segment changes from dark blue to lighter blue, then you do the biting surface until it changes color again, and finally you do the inside surface until it turns white (and starts blinking). This would be great if the base interacted with the position sensors in the brush (as in the app), but it does not. The color changes are only simple timers. If you brush on only one surface of a tooth, the lights will cycle through all three colors and change to white without touching any of the other surfaces. On the plus side, when you use the Braun app, the base station light ring will flash when the brush connects to your phone. This now happens almost immediately when you open the app and before you even pick up the brush. You no longer have to pick up the brush and wave it around to wake it up and get it to pair with your phone.I was hoping to be able to continue using my old Seies 9 brush as an office or travel brush. However, much to my chagrin, the Braun app does not support more than one brush per user account. Accordingly, I had to remove my old brush from my account to add the new brush and base station (each must be separately paired). The travel case is also exactly the same as the Series 9, which is a good thing. It's an excellent case that allows charging through the case while the brush is safely stored inside. I have travelled quite a bit with the old case, and it never opened in my checked luggage. I cannot image taking the base charging station with me one a trip, and you will need to unplug it to take the single charging adapter provided with you. Nevertheless, the base will re-pair itself to your wi-fi network once you return and plug it back in without you needing to do anything. In conclusion, if you already on a Series 9, and you prefer to brush with the Braun app to get the challenge of that perfect 2:00 minute brush time with 100% coverage and zero over pressure, the Series 10 has nothing to offer you. The brush and brushing experience are identical to the Series 9. However, if you would like some guidance with your brushing and don't want to be slaved to the app, then the new base station is exactly what you have been waiting for. Additionally, as mentioned above, the otherwise silly clock display is a useful night light.
