Product Description
The Max Value 5mtr Firewire Extension cable is an active extension cable. The specification for Firewire states that the maximum length of a FireWire cable is 4.5 meters which means you cannot reach 5mtrs with a passive Firewire cable. The Max Value extension cable can be cascaded together up to 10 times meaning a maximum distance of 50mtrs can be attained.

Active cable to extend the reach of Firewire drives or cameras
I've got an iSight external camera hooked up as a web security camera to my Mac, so I can keep an eye on the front door while working in the office. The extended reach is great and the Active Extension doesn't degrade the video or signal at all that I can tell. I've also used a firewire 800 to 400 converter directly into the iMac.

Excellent
We needed to extend the length of a Firewire cable run beyond the specified 5m maximum. This cable worked perfectly and allowed us to add another 5m without any loss of signal.I can't confirm whether these can be sucessfully daisy-chained - but have no reason to doubt the manufacturer's claim that they can be.

Useful iSight extension lead
I use this with my Apple iSight camera so that I can walk about with it while chatting on Skype. It's sturdily made so I'm hoping that it will last for some years.
