High Quality Adjustable Metal Walking Stick
I waited until I walked over 100 miles before this review. I am a 65 year old lifetime athlete and walker - about 50 miles a month. I was not sure about this item but I am now really glad I purchased it from Amazon. I also purchased the optional paw type tips for hard road walking with two of the Leki poles. I like the shock mechanism in the pole - to my surprise. The adjustment in the poles is first class and high quality. They hold - no problem. I like the handle but the strap is a bit flakey. The poles are sturdy and give your arms a good work out while walking. These poles reduce hand swelling on a hard walk by working out the fingers. I am only using one which I switch from hand to hand as I walk. They are also great for keeping stray dogs at bay. If you are thinking about an adjustable walking stick and like aluminum - this is perfect. You will like these. I would also think that a young person could use both of these on a hard walk to get their ski muscles in shape. I am not there yet.

If you like top quality equipment, Leki fits the bill.
I researched several brands and pole types before deciding on the Leki "Antishock". I have used these poles on several hikes since purchasing them a few weeks ago. I love them. There are lots of cheaper poles & brands out there, but if you like top-quality equipment; don't overlook what Leki has to offer.I wasn't sure I would like the anti-shock feature of these poles but thought I would give them a try. I was pleased to find the slight retraction they offer on hard rocky surfaces is a plus.I usually use poles only on steeper trails, retracting them to their shortest length and strapping them to my backpack on easy portions of the trail; these Leki's are perfect for such use, the length adjustment is quick/easy and stays locked in place. The poles are strong and light weight. The grips & hand straps are comfortable too! This was my first purchase of a Leki product; it won't be my last.

Good poles!
These are the first poles I have owned. I got them for a volcano hike up Mount Saint Helens. They really helped stablilizing during ascent and descent and were easily adjusted to many heights. A couple of times the twist lock mechanism did come undone on the lower portion of the poles and it collapsed during use - this happened to my husband with his set too so we aren't sure if it was because of the intensity of the hike or the type of mechanism used. That being said, the poles were otherwise durable and helped greatly during our adventure!

Shody material and workmanship
I just received my Leki Trail poles and I am not impressed! I owned and used a pair of Super Makalu trekking poles that were 25 years old before they were stolen. My old ones were make in Germany and the quality of materials and workmanship was excellent! I trekked all over Asia, Europe and North America without a single problem. These Czech Republic poles I took delivery of are 3rd rate in materials and workmanship. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to adjust the very uncomfortable straps. Included was an instruction card or fold out fanning card info system with useless instructions in every language including some from another solar system I think? Clearly great expense and engineering was poured into the useless instruction card and the poles were make as an afterthought. The rubber handles are uncomfortable. The straps will not adjust and are of such cheap scratchy material that I'm sure would rub the skin right off your wrist.I ordered a pair of Super Makalu poles that should arrive today. I'm hoping they are better than these junky poles that I will return.I may have to go to Black Diamond or pay double for a decent pair of trekking poles?

Suprisssed me how rugged and useful they really are
I have always thought that trekking poles were a joke, until I went backpacking in The Great Smokey Mountains 8 weeks after my knee surgery. These things were a knee-saver on the 3,000 foot descents. Plus they added stability in the stream crossings and overall became an indispensable aid in my hiking. These poles are solidly built (I looked at cheaper ones at Wal-Mart and outdoor stores, but these are by far the "Rolls Royce" of trekking poles. One thing that I worried about was if they would loosen up and collapse. I was putting a lot of weight on them on the decent but they performed flawlessly and never even appeared to loosen up.Overall - highly recommended.

Great
I bought this pair to replace a Leki Malaku trekking pole set I've had for 10 years. The old poles were fine, but the cork handles were starting to break-down and the older poles are heavier than the new ones.I've now hiked about 100 miles with the new poles and I'm happy. They work like the old poles, but are significantly lighter. The anti-shock feature works as well as it did on my old set. I hope to get 10 years of service from these.

Outstanding
I lack a comparison as these are the first trekking poles I've owned. I've used them on multiple long hikes and also on overnight backpacking trips. They make a huge difference when carrying a 40 lb pack. The poles are sturdy, lightweight, and durable and have held up to the beating I've put them through. They adjust quickly and easily and the locking mechanism is reliable. Adjusting them without stopping also proved easy to do.I'm not sure what benefits there are to the more expensive poles but I'm very happy with these.

Good trekking poles
Light, ambidextrous, and well-designed, these poles worked well for me on a Mt Whitney hike. The one weakness I experienced was that after a few hours of use, they tend to loosen up, and need to be tightened. Other than that, I feel they are a good value.
