The initial stiffness will improve with time.
This is a really nice product. Some reviews indicated that the book does not fully close when checks are placed in it. This is true when it is brand new. You need to break it in for it to be perfect. When new, the folder cover is stiff and stays half open. You need to either let time break it in, or you can do what I did, which is to be a little rough with is trying to gently bend the corners and edges of the cover to make it softer. Then it closes perfectly, and it looks fantastic. I would buy again.

Classy Padded Check book Cover (not binder)
This leather checkbook cover is a good buy - it's classy looking and the cover is softly padded the glitch is that it is not the standard checkbook cover size which is 9.5 x 9.5 which is why it is not expensive. Because its a bit short in width the cover does not fully close leaving about a 1/3 inch open. I think that over time the cover will relax a bit especially if you put a heavy book on top of it for awhile.This is such and upgrade from my other checkbook covers, I am happy to have it.

Look just like the picture
Very Nice quality for the price... but when you put the checks and the check register in it does not close all the way and looks kind of odd.. the manufacturers should have taken account of the thickness of the average checks ... As you can see in the pic it will not close all the way with a typical full book of checks and register
