Quality all the way
Songs for maturing to ? Quite possibly ! LLoyd Cole has recorded another superb album. He does capture the essence of growing older, gaining family responsibility & looking back at the "folly" of youth, remarkably well.Lloyd is a very intelligent & articulate songwriter & this album is chock a block full of classic Cole. His music seems to move on, change & progress as he gets older & this latest album continues to reflect this - if you love Lloyd, you'll love this - it's cracking. God only knows why he remains so under rated, it's almost criminal !

Melodic, amusing, witty, dry and very listenable........
A welcome new release from LC and worth the wait. It isn't as good as I would have hoped, but it isn't as "treading water" as it could have been either .Having said that, it is well worth the money, and I would have given it 4 stars, if it was by another lesser artist, or if I thought he didn't have the capacity to make some more "belters", which I am sure he can.Melodic, amusing, witty, dry and very listenable, but could do even better.

Superbly crafted
Having been disappointed by some of Lloyd Cole's work during the 90's, his last two albums represent a return to form with better song-writing and a much more satisfying sound. Anti-depressant may well be his best work yet. The gloomy title masks some impeccable composition while the execution is more convincing than Music in a Foreign Language. There aren't really any weak songs on this album but the ones that stand out for me are Woman in a Bar and Rolodex Incident. The latter has a richly textured sound and arrangement that is simply exquisite and well worth the price of entry on its own.

Listen and listen again
Well, I'm one of the original fan I guess. Remember seeing him with the Commotions in, oh, 1986?Buy anyway, nostalgia ain't what it used to be, and these are GOOD songs, good melody, good recording and mixing (although a little "loudness wars").I love it.Then again, I love 'em all, even Bad Vibes (but maybe not Plastic Wood he he)

Another fine album
As a fan of over 20 years of the consistently superb Lloyd Cole, this is another fine release. Although perhaps not quite as good as his previous Music in a Foreign Language, this new offering follows in similar vein to that album and will surely satisfy fans.Stand out tracks are the opening number The Young Idealists and the very catchy How Wrong Can You Be? Unlike other reviewers I actually feel Rolodex Incident is the least memorable track on the album, without much of a tune (normally always a great strength of LC's to match his outstanding lyrics), although maybe it will grow on me.

Another classic from a true genius.
Yet another fresh collection of mature Lloyd Cole songs - as beautiful as "Music in a Foreign Language" but more optimistic than its predecessor. Typically, the more you listen the more you love it - a quality only true great singer songwriters pocess unlike the bland youngsters on the radio. This trully is a collection of standout tracks from the whimsical "Nyc Sunshine" to the brilliance of "Rolodex Incident", they are all a treat and Cole's lyrics are as clever and insightful as ever, hilariously so at times. And as with all his cd's, I know I will be listening to this one in 3 years time enjoying it even more than today.

Album of the year
Even if you only like Lloyd Cole a little bit, you'll love this. While remaining witty and clever and musically adroit, Cole has lost some of his winsomeness and whimsy on this album making it just a fabulous example of brilliant heartbreakingly good songwriting.Love it.

Mature work from a mature artist
Having followed Lloyd Cole from the very first album with the Commotions I have ,over the years, continued to collect all of his music. I lost this CD and recently bought it again on Amazon. This is simply an amazing disc. Full of insightful lyrics and humor even when the song is about suicide - Slip Away, industrial espionage -How Wrong Can You Be, or being broadsided - I Didn't See It Coming. Anyone who can weave words like Exit Strategy, Neo-Con, Market Forces and other catch-phrases into beautiful poetry is worth listening to. This soundtrack pours like a cold lager on a hot summer day - each song flowing easily one into the other. The tone is perfect throughout with Cole's trademark jangly guitars enhanced with strings, piano, and soft beats. This is a mature work from a thoughtful artist that will be in my CD tray for weeks on end.

Still Supposing We Could Make a Difference
The consistently excellent Lloyd Cole delivers again on ANTIDEPRESSANT. Ever since he and the Commotions burst onto the music scene with the classic RATTLESNAKES album - and the brilliant single PERFECT SKIN -- Cole has been turning out high-quality albums with stunning regularity. Here, he's "no longer angry, no longer young, no longer driven to distraction, not even by Scarlett Johansson," but he's poetic as ever as he navigates a world of "neocons," "junkies," "coffee machines" and "millionaires." A unique voice in every way.Standout tracks: "The Young Idealists," "Woman In A Bar," "New York City Sunshine." If you're not hooked by the first three tracks, this one isn't for you.

Best work since THE NEGATIVES
I was introduced to Lloyd by a Nikki, a visiting Brit who was my roommate for a bit. She got me a copy of Bad Vibes and I was hooked. I have purchased several Cole releases since, including Etc,Love Story,Music in a Foreign Language and Antidepressant. Of his most recent work I prefer this collection. It ranges from sprightly to pensive and has lots of hooks. Can't live without NYC Sunshine and Anysong. These tunes are unavailable in MP3 on Amazon or ITunes so get a copy of the CD or miss out.(oh,by the way, The Young Idealists ,Rolodex Incident and other great cuts make this a collection you must have !)

Grows and grows on you.
I previewed this and also read the reviews before ordering it, but when "Antidepressant" arrived, I did not find that on first listening it was very compelling. However, with repeated listenings, I now have to admit that this is an exceptionally crafted album. It is nothing like the Commotions. It is a mature, wry, and melodic Cole we hear on this album. "Roledex Incident" is a masterpiece of recording art, and "Young Idealists" is also beautifully arranged, recorded, and mixed; I love how the guitars come spilling out of the first verse. So, I would say that if you like Lloyd Cole and you buy this CD, you will not be disappointed. Just be willing to listen to it multiple times before judging.
