YEY USB Floppy Drive,Floppy Disk Reader 3.5-inch External Portable 1.44 MB FDD for Windows XP/7/8/10/11 PC Laptop Plug and Play No Extra Drivers– Black

I needed a floppy drive to access photos and files on some 25+ year old diskettes. I didn't know what condition the diskettes were in, but I figured I would try this device. The good news is that Linux (Fedora 41) recognizes it as a "plug and play" floppy drive when it is connected to my computer - as does Windows 11. I tried connecting it to a Windows XP system that I run as a virtual machine under Linux, and Windows XP recognizes that there is a new USB device attached but does not recognize it as a floppy. I'm assuming that the same would happen if Windows XP were being run natively but do not know that for sure. Once connected, the device seems to work just fine, but it struggled to read some of my floppies - probably due to the age of the floppies and their unknown condition rather than anything being wrong with the device itself. Overall, a decent drive for the money, and I give it 5 stars.

Worked right away on both Windows 11 and Linux. Simple plug in and go.

I wasted several hours troubleshooting this device. I changed a ton of power settings on my pc and made sure it was plugged in to the correct USB port for enough power. After some time I was able to get it to read about 3 disks and then it failed completely and ate a disk! It's stuck in the drive and now I need to rip it open to get my disk back and can't even return it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! I would give this review 0 stars of I can, but I have to give at least 1 star to post.

This works great on my computer I had old floppy disks I wanted to recycle and use this works excellent for that

No drivers required on Win 10 or 11. Reads and writes 1.44MB floppy disks without issue. Buy with confidence

I bought one of these for use with a Sony Mavica camera. The first drive I received took 4 hours of troubleshooting and it worked one time before it stopped working entirely. I returned it and got a replacement. The replacement I received had a broken piece of plastic that fell out of the opening when I unboxed it, but the drive worked instantly and it didn't break over a few weeks of use. An annoying quirk with one of these drives is that you have to unplug and replug the USB every time you load a new floppy.

Worked as advertised. Followed instructions and plugged it into my MacBook Air where it read and allowed me to access photos from 2001.

Plugged it into my linux server (Debian) and managed to mount old floppy disks I had in my basement. Able to read, write, reformat the disks. Makes the odd noise if empty, but it works.

No additional steps needed after plugging it into Windows 11 USB socket. It works really well !

Arrived undamaged, save for a minor ding on the cardboard packaging, which left no mark on the drive itself. Works good, sounds good. It even works on not only Windows, but also Linux. As an avid collector/re-user of old technology, I'm happy there's still cheap solutions for floppy disk media.

Worked straight out of the packet. Task purchased for, recovering old files from old floppies, has now been completed.
