.co.uk DJ Ravin takes the wheel behind Buddha Bar III, the namesake compilation from Paris' answer to Studio 54. Ravin forgoes the Dinner-Party division that Claude Challe opted for on previous instalments of the series, and instead casts Dream versus Joy on this 2-CD set. Dream, leaning on the traditional (syrupy Greek strings, Japanese bamboo flutes, Persian harmonists) and new-age Enigma-Deep Forest side of things (Oliver Shanti and Friends, Vangelis engineer Frederick Rousseau) is frankly too restless to be truly dreamy. The frenzied run-through so many styles, seemingly for the sake of diversity alone, ultimately feels about as sincerely global as a mad dash through Disney's Epcot Centre. The second CD in the set, Joy, pays a tad more attention to a general vibe, resulting in a much better overall effect. Rhythm rules the day here, from tabla-riffic entries by Mercury prizewinner Talvin Singh and fellow Outcastes Badmarsh & Shri to 7-drum troupe Kodo. And don't forget Ekova's "Starlight in Daden". Nothing that features Dierdre Dubois's glorious voice can be all that bad. --Bob Michaels

Sheer Heaven In A Lovely Little Box
BUDDHA BAR 3 RULES THE WORLD, should be the title. Maybe It is just my personal experience of the album while staying with my cousin in Rome in November 2002, that brought me to appreciate something which you don't usually find in the predominately western music of our beloved country. I can remember sending my partner down to the local market near Via Tunisia, to fing something sweet and lush to eat for breaky, when I find this CD in her collection. BUDDHA BAR!!! Now with a name like that, you're bound to find a veriety of musical lushness. My favourite of the whole album is Gotan Project - Triptico (CD 2 Track 1). Fandabidosey!!!. and then it just gets better and better. DJ Ravin suggesting that this CD is JOY is just sheer genius. Because of course it is. It almost reminds me of the "Sit back, relax" of Enigma when they inroduce their MCMXC album. So for probably all the wrong reasons, Buddha Bar III reminds me of Roma, bella Roma.Another café lungo anybody?Callum

OK - but there are some better Buddha Bar compilations.
I have acquired nearly all the Buddha Bar CDs and this is perhaps the weakest. There are few, if any, outstanding tracks - some are just tedious. I would recommend leaving this one out if you are collecting the set.

Good Value for money
I was missing the first CD of this two CD Buddha Bar III. So second hand was a good option to rip the missing CD to my digital collection. It worked fine. Arrived before the due date.
